Black or mocha interior

Hi I'm about to place an order for the m40i and was considering both black and mocha leather interior( opted for ventilated seats)
For a dark graphite paint how will a mocha look on the inside? I'm just afraid the black will look too boring overall for a dark graphite exterior..
Any input will be appreciated,thanks

I'd agree that the black is a little more plain, with black carpet, steering wheel, dash, and everything else. Can't really go wrong with either one though.

I have dark graphite with a black interior. With the contrast stitching and aluminum trim, it keeps it from being too dark or stark. I had the mocha interior on my last vehicle and liked it. Last thing is to check and see if ventilated seats are available with colors other than black. When I got mine, you had to get black interior in order to get ventilated seats.

I love the mocha interior I ended up with (originally wanted black as well). It does a great job breaking up the black interior and adding a touch of lighter tones, without being too much (and will probably hide dirt easier, so look better longer).

I would suggest going around to dealers to find a car with the interiors you want, so you get a real world feel for the look. If I hadn't done this, I might have passed on my car. extremely glad I didn't.

I was strongly considering mocha for my 30i (Alpine White), but in the end I thought I would get tired of the "brown" look throughout the cabin so I went with black. I had Space Gray/Black in my 535, grey/black in my E39 M5, and white/black a long time ago in a 993, so I guess I am just a black interior guy. Have a look at mocha at a dealer to see if you like it...that is the best way to decide.

I have a graphite exterior as well, had black spec'ed initially but at the last minute decided to 'brighten' up the interior. Had black interiors for 10+ years, they are normally my favorite. But I switched to canberra beige, and I love it and wouldn't change it. There is no wrong answer with any of these. Obviously the lighter leathers require some more TLC to keep looking nice.

I was going to change from the current black w/blue stitching to mocha on the 2019, but in some photos, the mocha had a purple hue to it. So I am getting the same black w/blue stitching. But it was tempting for a while.
Can never go wrong with a black interior.

I wanted a white M40 at first because no car looks better than a white on black one.

I don't play the waiting game on ordering a car as it always goes wrong for me. My dealer whom I have used for years had 2 white ones but both had Mocha interior. I just couldn't stand how it looks but I just don't like brown anything. He couldn't find a white with black interior anywhere in the nations with the packages I wanted so I got a black car instead with black interior.

Don't think you can get ventilated seats with anything but canberra beige, so you might want to double check on that. I would have got that option if I could have but it wasn't available in the colors I wanted.

When I bought mine, you could only get ventilated seats with the black interior. I haven’t check to see if this has changed.

Availability is another question, but the 2019 pricing guide lists canberra beige, black (without the blue stitching), and mocha as the available ventilated seats.

When I bought mine in March (white on black with blue stitching) adding ventilated seats would delete the sport seats and side bolster adjustments. Is that still the case?

Yes. You still lose adjustable side bolsters and the side bolsters are not as prodominate. They are noticeably different but I am fine with mine.

No you can do ventilated seats with black or beige or mocha, I don't like beige so thats why I was choosing between mocha and black..

How's the comfort of the ventilated seats? I heard the seat cushioning is harder than the normal seats?

That's what I thought too! I was I will get tired of the mocha color after a while. Black might be the safest option to go

I got the black. Can’t go wrong. Easier to clean and maintain.

I was considering Oyster.. I think I would have loved it, but then sales guy and friends told me it would stain easy.. even blue jeans would stain over time. I opted for black and feel like a bit of a sell-out. I wish they had red interiors in the US.

I had initially ordered vented seats, but removed them when I learned they weren't the "Sport Seats". It should make that clear. Some people mention comfort.. IDK, but I do love good side bolsters, and you lose that with the vented seats.

I wouldn't order without sitting in them first (vented seats). That said, I live in MN, were I a CA for FL resident, I would probably do vented regardless.

I think the padding is a little thinner to accommodate for the ventilation set-up. I’m use to a firmer seat from bmw so to me it wasn’t that noticeable. I make about a 100 mile one way trip every week and I am very happy with my seat comfort. I have also taken a few 7-8 hour trips and have been happy. Now that we are in the summer heat, I absolutely love the ventilated seats and how well they do at cooling my external body temp. My back isn’t sweating and sticking to the seat. I immediately notice it when I get out of my x3 and into the 4 series.

Thanks for the input! My back sweat becomes very annoying in summer when I sit in my m3 seats, ventilated seats will be awesome for me to keep my back cool. I guess less padding won't bother me either.

I was in the dealer a few days ago, and looking at all the different interiors (black sensatec/leatherette, black with blue stitching, straight black, oyster, red, etc) I honestly feel the mocha is perfect. It's not bright (congac, to me, is a bit too bright), but breaks up the interior well enough, and goes well with the black shiny bits and chrome left over. I also saw the rhombic? trim, brushed chrome trim, a dark wood trim, and feel the cove wood is just beautiful. its non shiny, and has an almost soft touch feel too it. if it's not actual real exposed wood, they've done a phenomenal job recreating the sensation.

That being said, absolutely nothing will replace actually seeing everything in person. go to multiple dealerships if you have to.

As for sport vs ventilated. I'm finding my sport seats, set right, are (to me) as comfortable and "huggy" as a recliner. but yes, in heat, my back sweats. But IMO, I'd take that over ventilated. But that's our climate. Sit in both, and make tour choice. Nothing replaces that.
