Here's an update on Android Auto issue:
I told my BMW dealer(service desk) that I'm not getting Android Auto and Car Play option on my I drive anymore. Hence, he updated the I drive and now I have the I drive July version with updated BMW assistant, maps(slightly faster) and guess what......Android Auto Here are a few pics from Android Auto interface that now I feel that I don't like, I think I got used to iDrive OS. |

There has been lots of questions and issues regarding the X3 G01 iDrive 7.0 and Android Auto.
I contacted the Connected Drive team in the UK for answers, the answers relates to my 03/20 build in UK spec only, this is their reply:- “There are two types of vehicles the latest iDrive system is fitted to, SP15 and SP18. This refers to the underlying hardware in the vehicle. SP18 vehicles have the full functionality required to access all available features in the new iDrive unit. SP15 vehicles are missing the following features; • Remote Software Upgrade • Intelligent Functions – automate my habits, predictive preconditioning (learns your habits such as temperature settings and sets accordingly) • In-Car Experiences – caring car (‘Hey BMW I am tired), experience modes (‘Hey BMW, relax me’) • Voice Activated Climate Control (‘Hey BMW I am cold’) • Digital Key • Drive Recorder The latest July 2020 software will certainly improve the user experience in all models with the latest iDrive unit. However, there are a few features unavailable, Android Auto is one example. I don’t have any further information whether this will be offered in the future as a retrofit I’m sorry to say. When you enter your VIN in the software update page on the BMW site, I can see that you get a message to state that your software will be updated automatically. This update is specifically for the Bluetooth software to help your vehicle communicate with the latest devices. As your vehicle was produced only recently, no updates will be available until later on but this won’t be done automatically as the site is unaware that your vehicle can’t receive Remote Software Upgrades. As for your query regarding the vehicle’s ability to display navigation directions on the main screen, instrument cluster and head up display. This is currently only offered through Android Auto for third party navigation apps such as Google Maps or Waze. Unfortunately, I can’t say whether this will be offered with Apple Carplay in the future.” So the answer as far as the UK is concerned is NO Android Auto, unless you know different! |

Just let the service desk know that you are not able to access car play, android auto, spotify or any other similar 3rd party apps. I've shared a snapshot in the thread that clearly states that you can go and get the update for your Drive from the dealer as remote software upgrades are not available on the X3. There's a person at every dealership(usually) who does the coding for vehicles on demand. They would be able to tell you that your vehicle can be updated to have AA. Service desk people and BMW genius team didn't have a know-how of this feature in my case. So to your question, yes, they programed the car. Here's how the app store looks like after programing: Last edited by shashankufl; 08-07-2020 at 07:18 AM.. Reason: Missed a part of the question from the other user, adding anwser for the same |

I booked my appointment to finally get the remote 3D view issue resolved. The first listed fix for that bulletin is to upgrade the vehicle to the latest integration level. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...71503-9999.pdf |

For those that went to the dealer and got denied-
As The Verge details, BMW will support Android Auto in all vehicles which support iDrive 7.0. This includes 2019 and 2020 3 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, and 8 Series vehicles. 2019/2020 X3, X5, and X7 SUVs, as well as the 2020 X6, will also support Android Auto. A spokesperson for BMW says that “Apple CarPlay was our main focus” because “a majority of our customers were using iOS mobile devices.” Customer demand led to this announcement, though. However, there is a caveat to BMW’s Android Auto support. It will only support the Wireless version of the platform which restricts the platform to users with Pixel, Nexus, and select Samsung devices. Update 7/29: True to its word, BMW has been rolling out Android Auto to select vehicles over the past couple of weeks. The latest firmware update for compatible vehicles delivers support for Android Auto’s wireless version. That firmware update, as Android Police learned, may need to be installed by a BMW dealer rather than the built-in software update method. BMW has confirmed to 9to5Google that “vehicles produced before July 2020 will receive the new software via Remote Software Upgrade (OTA) later this year. The roll-out of the global upgrade campaign is scheduled for autumn this year.” A push notification will arrive when the update is available. Apparently, iDrive versions with a date of 07/2020 and newer should deliver Android Auto. The full list of BMW vehicles that will support Android Auto can be seen below. 2019+ 3 Series with Live Cockpit Professional 2020+ 5 Series 2020+ 7 Series 2019+ 8 Series 2020+ X3 with Live Cockpit Professional 2020+ X4 with Live Cockpit Professional 2019+ X5 2020+ X6 2019+ X7 2019+ Z4 https://9to5google.com/2020/07/29/bm...wireless-2020/

Just registered to report that I got my car's software updated in Toronto, Canada with the latest July update. I use Apple Carplay and I get directions in the HUD with Apple Maps. Android Auto is available in the Apps menu.
I have a 2020 xDrive30i with Live Cockpit Professional and iDrive 7. Last edited by dickydoo; 08-13-2020 at 05:57 PM.. |

Yes, I set up a service appointment and left the car at the dealer (they are doing contactless drop-offs at the moment) complaining about Bluetooth connectivity issues, intermittent music cutting out while playing using CarPlay, and the Remote 3D View working only some of the time over the BMW Connected app. Only the latter 2 were actually happening, and rarely at that. I just needed an excuse to send it in.
I avoided mentioning anything about a software update to them, hoping they would think it was their idea. Later on in the day they called me saying they updated the software and checked that Apple CarPlay works with their phone. They asked me to check Remote 3D View functionality while I was on the phone with them, and it did so they said that the update fixed both problems and I could go pick the car back up from them. The work was covered under warranty and I wasn't charged for anything. |

My X3 is three weeks old (built last month) but there is no Android Auto. I'm also new to BMW. After reading this thread I hesitatingly called my local BMW service, where I purchased the vehicle, to request the 7/2020 software upgrade. In a good sign I suppose the guy seemed pretty straightforward. He took some time satisfying himself that I had Live Cockpit Pro (I have the Premium package), that the instrument cluster was ALL digital, etc. He went on to comment that BMW has done some weird things with various models when it comes to iDrive, but that my vehicle should be able to be upgraded and he gave me an appointment for 9/3. I'll report back.

Did they tell you the 07/20 update was loaded on their machines? You may have ended up with the 03/20 update. There was also an instance or two where it didn't show up for a few days for folks who got 07/20. You may want to pop back up there and get your key fob read.
