RDC is tricky, another example of German over-engineering. New RDC module needs to be linked to the system, for which Dealer in my case had to program the whole car to the new I-level (from 2013-11 to 2018-11)

Hi, could you please show a picture with the connections to the trunk? I am doing the retrofit and I would like to know how the control module is connected to the car.

RDC module removing

Hi kmarei.
I was living in Reston not too long ago. It's matter of fact I bought my BMW X3 in Dumfries I wish I had seen this forum before. Now I live in NYC.
Anyway...
I am having same problems with the RDC module. I changed all the tire sensors, and the guys from Mavis reprogrammed all the sensors but still didn't work. I want to remove the RDC module, but i am don't want to break it. Is it just to pull it out? Is there any screws or lock pin connecting to the case?
How do I check if the problem is the RDC? I am afraid the sensor they installed does not match my car. They said it is universal and works on most of the cars.
Thank you for your time.

I know you ended up finding the location but for future reference I'd highly recommend utilizing BMW Atlanta's part website! I've used it many times and it will give you a general idea on where a part will be on the vehicle.

I sold my car
But there is a plastic clip you have to undo to remove the rdc module
Then unplug the old one and refit the new one and clip that plastic clip again
No screws or tools needed
What I did was to remove the old one
Get the exact same part number used from eBay
I think I paid $60 and that fixed my issue

I think it is the new tire sensor that i installed can't communicate with the TPMS module. So i am getting new sensor this week. If that doesn't work, then I will get new module.
Thank you for the information... I don't want to break the module.
FYI, i went to the BMW in NY and the prices are ridiculous:
$445 for module
$140 for each tire sensor
$40 for each tire stems.

Thank you very much!

A BMW dealership in New York wanted to charge my girlfriend 900 to replace the RDC module in her 328xi. I read up on the forums and bought a used module on ebay for 60 bucks and a cable for 30. Probably took me 3 minutes total to replace the module and code it. Works perfectly now. The hardest part is downloading all of the software for inpa and ncs expert

Hello,
thanks for the info. I am planning to do this next in 2 weeks when I have some free time.
How do you code the new RDC module? Did you need at special tool?

Plug and Play - Old vs New?

Hey guys, so the infamous RDC failure just happened on my 2014 X3. I pulled the RDC module out, opened it up and it was full corrosion - same that everyone has reported and seen on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Vu7GTFcZjU

My module is part number 36106857938-02 (SW.02.0D.02). Of course it's been disco'd and replaced with 36106881433. The question I have is 36106881433 simply "plug and play" or will 36106881433 require coding? I would like to buy a new module vs. the used eBay route because I'm sure the eBay used one will have some sort of corrosion and eventually fail however I don't really want to deal with coding

Thoughts?

There is no coding required for the tire pressure antenna. From my research they seem to be very specific on the chassis range. It’s seems to be related to Idrive for example CIC and NBT would have different antennas, as long as the part you get is the “updated” version you should be plug and play.

Forgot to add if you get used you also will not need to do coding

Did you not at least read some of the post?
Everyone who changed the rdc including me had to code it regardless of old, new, used, or updated version.

No need for reprogramming or anything

So I guess take your faulty rdc module out
Get the exact part number and make sure the sw version matches
And you should be good to go

Cost me $60
Instead of $900 at BMW of sterling , VA

Yes I did read. Ive replaced 10-11 antennas on a variety of chassis including my own no coding required on my end... I’m sorry YOUR F25 required coding but here’s a post from page 1

Not true
I had replaced my module with a used one from eBay and I did not have to do any coding

I've replaced my RDC on my F25 with a used one but I needed to code it. I thought I bought the "right" RDC but I guess the version was not an exact match?

Anyways, this is good to know information. Thanks fellas.
