Who is getting the Accoustically Laminated Glass option these days?
New member here. This is a way cool forum.
My Ford Edge lease is up in a few months. My shortlist is 2019 Ford Escape Titanium and the 2019 X3 x30i. My last two cars, the Edge and an RX350 both had front and driver/passenger acoustic glass. My car before that was a 2005 X3 On my test drive of the 2019 X3, I definitely noticed more wind noise from my driver's side window than is acceptable to me. Believe it or not, the 2019 Escape has this feature. This is what brought me to the Edge to begin with, it was a nice quiet ride. If BMW or Ford knew how much I would pay for a car with ALL acoustic windows, I would be crying but happy, and they would be laughing all the way to the bank Last edited by Cape Dave; 03-21-2019 at 10:26 PM.. |

Hello mate. I've heard others are reporting wind noise on the X3. I've got the acoustic glazing option which adds thicker glass to the windows and I must say I can hardly hear any wind noise when cruising. The cabin is super quiet!

The X3 is much quieter overall than typical, however there is noticeable wind noise in the side mirror gusset area. When driving in rain I can see the flow recirculate in that area, so it’s a very obvious source of aero noise. If that one noise source could be eliminated nobody would need or care about the acoustic glass.
Supposedly you can order the acoustic glass as an option now in the US. Previously it wasn’t available in our market but was outside the US. So if it’s important to you, special order your X3 and make sure that’s an option. We just had a 2018 Ford Edge titanium as a rental for a week, and I was both surprised at how decent it was and disappointed at all the rough edges. It felt more like an appliance than a car. Ford makes a decent car but they still fall short of Honda and others in the mainstream market when it comes to overall driving experience and enjoyment. I think what would most set the X3 apart from the Edge would be interior quality and the rewarding driver experience. |

From the drivers seat in our '19 X3, I hear the wind rushing noise. It's not what I'd call loud, but noticeable in the otherwise quiet cabin. I'll have it looked at when in for the first service.
I don't know if the wind noise is on the passenger side too as I'm usually driving. I will have to check. Last edited by Bob in IL; 03-22-2019 at 12:46 PM.. |

I drove the Honda and heard way too much engine noise for me. A shame because it is a great car! And I have decided that if I go for the X3, unless they happen to have a car with the acoustic glass option on the lot, I will be special ordering. Not my first choice, but I really need quiet interior.
FYI, it is only the 2019 Titanium that has the acoustic side glass. The interior of the 18/19 Ford Escape is the very definition of dated. The 2020 Escape will be different. |

I am a little confused. So where is this mentioned as an option? Never seen it on the build-it pages. I assume ours (i30-M-Exec) has the front glass but not the side glass, but only because I read that at the introduction in late 2017.

I ordered it for my build. I learned about it here. The CA wasn't aware you could add it. Sigh. (Why are none of the sales guys actually car guys too?) Anyway, I'm picking it up on April 3rd so can't comment on it yet, but for $150 it was an easy add.

It's a pity it wasn't offered when I ordered my car, but for $150 you'd think they'd make it standard -- that would hardly matter in the grand scheme of things on such expensive cars. I can't imagine anyone not wanting this.

My thoughts precisely. Truly sad that this has to be an "option". Pure greed and stupidity.

I didn't order mine, but I would have chosen this option if I had had the chance. Is after-market upgrade possible at an affordable price?

Did you order in the US ? It's the option 3KA, right ? I definitely noticed the wind noise on the freeway during the test drive (sdrive30i) |

Nope, only the windshield is acoustic glass in Canada. You can check your side glass. If it is acoustic, you will see 3 layers looking at the top edge of the glass. The center core is the plastic, acoustic layer. I inquired about it for my 2019, and it was not available and that’s less than 1 month ago. Maybe the 2020’s will have it.
