Have you tried using the adaptive setting? I find it keeps the car more level and flat. I think that's the most comfortable setting. Our X3 is a a 30i with adaptive but test drove couple M40is before We bought X3 and X5 40i also had one for loaner for 2 days with the adaptive suspension.

For those ditching the rfts. What is your backup plan for a flat? I want to get rid of the rfts but would hate to tear a sidewall and be stuck.

I'm keeping my run flats. But, if I were in your shoes, I'd keep a can or two of Fix-a-flat in my car, and make sure I have towing coverage in my auto insurance.

I have a plug repair kit and a small compressor. And a can of goo. Not much comfort.

Of course, the rfts weren't any safer (imho) because 1) most of my driving is more than 50 miles from home (or decent shop), and 2) rfts are more likely to end up flat in the first place. Self-fulfilling prophecy.

Honestly, I'm thinking about 5 new non-staggered wheels and tires so I can carry a spare that will work. It's a conundrum (if you ever leave town).

Love the looks and sportiness of the 20" M40i staggered wheels. But I'm not comfortable travelling.

I have non RFTs on the X5 and the X3. I carry a can of goo and a plug kit in each car. Seemed like I was set until I was driving the X5 in rural TX and got a low pressure warning on the LR. These are 315/35/20 tires so I knew I was screwed if I didn't get this fixed. Stopped, got out the can of goo, hooked it up per instructions (yes, I read the instructions) and proceeded to decrease the tire pressure in the tire whilst spraying goo everywhere but in the tire. Unbelievable. Fortunately, a tire shop was 10 miles away and they got me right in and put a proper patch on it. I have AAA platinum, but I used up my free tow when my former M3 tossed the alternator bearings (sounds just like really bad rod knock, btw) and I had it towed to the hotel I was planning on staying at. Trailered it to mPorium in McKinney, TX (owner is a regular in the E9xM3 section of Bimmerpost).

I now also have a compressor in both vehicles and a different brand of tire goo (I was using the green can but I forget the brand name -- slime?).

25,000 miles on the Bridgestone RFT Duellers on my M40i.
New non-run flats going on the wheels @ 30,000.

When I ordered the X3M40i I added the $150 doughnut spare knowing the run flats would be going.
AAA and a spare......not problem

Many cars that don't have runflats, have a tyre repair kit in the boot. They don't cost much on Amazon.

As another poster has said, runflats won't take you all the way home if you are more than 50-60 miles away from home. However they will off course give you more time to stop somewhere safe and call a recovery vehicle.
