I've never seen anything as elusive as the M40i's actual HP number. I might setup a go-fund-me page to pay for my M40i to get dynoed so we can end this thing once and for all (I'm not paying the $150 to have it done myself). If this were a car we'd have dozens of dyno vids but for some reason no one has strapped a M40i to a dyno.

Heads up Dinan is having a sale in August. 10% off the tune.

Dinan dyno'd it.

Chart and numbers? Even now the HP number is elusive. I read this entire thread and no one still seems to know.

The 355hp number that BMW lists, isn't from the wheels. Its a crank number. So the numbers above aren't valid. Can anyone point me to the actual dyno chart? BMW as well as every other manufacturer does not use the wheel HP number. They use the Crank number. I still don't know what the M40i actually puts down to the wheels.

Both dyno charts are on the Dinan product page. They performed a crank dyno as well as a wheel dyno for both figures which is great.

This one?
https://www.dinancars.com/product/d4...eries=&mid=X3/

That’s suggesting they measured it stock at 354hp and 368lbft AT THE WHEELS which seems very high...

Yes, that one. The 340i with 320 BMW quoted HP (crank) has been dynoed at 320-330 HP at the wheels. So 378 wheel HP for a car that was claimed by BMW to have 355 HP (crank) is believable.

We all know BMW underrates their engines but if Dinan's dyno figures are accurate, the X3 M40i may have one of the most underrated engines BMW makes.

Dinan has said it’s the most underrated engine bmw has produced (for a non-M car).

445 at the crank is the number.

Also, those numbers are on 93 so it's a bit inflated for us SoCal guys on garbage 91. The engine is the engine...I've seen MPPSK cars dyno about what they are supposed to. I have no idea how Dinan measures their numbers but they have been known to get higher numbers...all marketing if you ask me.

Yeah, I’m struggling with their numbers.
My 340iT has been dyno’d by a well known independent here in the UK on a dyno which is known to be consistent and that showed 335bhp (crank) which is over what BMW specify but only by a dozen horsepower.
I believe Dinan’s gains (+25hp, +30lbft) just not the outright numbers.

When my M40i finally arrives I’ll take it down to Surrey Rolling Road and see what happens...

I would tend to either believe all their numbers or none of them....

Every rolling road shows different numbers, but if you use the same rolling road for a "before" and an "after" you can usually get a good handle on what changes have been produced.... hence my comment about finding the +25/30 believable, even if i don't believe the actual numbers.

Since we know the weight, the slippage, the powertrain loss, the DA and assuming we know the aero cross-section of our cars then it's easy to say my car runs the 1/4 miles in 12.3 seconds at 111 so it has 483hp....(that's with a JB4)....

Dinan Stage 1 Install Rap Up

Well after one week we've given up. My local dealer gave me my money back in-full and returned the vehicle to stock configuration. Apparently it was too difficult to contact Dinan or they were not getting the information they needed to solve the thrown code problems. I'm disappointed but did not want to become the test mule long term.

Stop by and I will slap on an BMS intake and JB4 plus buy the beer.....

After that 20 minutes is up, you decide what we do but it better include whisky.

Im shocked... that’s terrible service and reaffirms my decision to go JB4.

Diann comment on here when it suits but can’t be bothered to support you when you’re trying to buy their product!

Sounds like a good deal... I’d snap it up myself if the huge pond wasn’t in the way.
