Dinan Stage 1 G01 X3 M40i Tuner Released!

Hey guys, I figured I'd start a new thread for it...

Just noticed it on their site today. Couldn't have been out for too long.

Has anyone ordered it yet? Wonder how it will compare to the JB4?

Looking at Dinan’s charts they say our cars running stock are actually making 445hp/440ft-lbs at the crank and 378hp/395ft-lbs at the wheels. Has anyone dyno’d their cars stock and seen the same numbers? That’s pretty conservative reporting from BMW if that’s the case!!!

What's really interesting is BMW numbers actually match WHEEL HP and Torque, not crank. Never saw a case where manufacturer was quoting wheel HP - it's always crank HP.

Many of us thought BMW was very soft on their numbers. The common response is, "Why would a manufacturer under report their HP." To this I would suggest BMW protects it's previous M line. That is, you may be pissed off at BMW when you buy an M car making 425 HP, and then their standard line offers the close to the same (or better) the very next year?

More like 355hp/369 lb/ft @ the wheels stock according to Dinan. The 378hp/395 lb/ft @ the wheels figure you list - is with - the Dinan Tune.

Look again - their chart for the crank measurements has (445hp/440trq) for their stock measurement...

Yes, Dinan estimates almost 20% drivetrain loss from crank to wheels on AWD cars, which results in this sky-high crank HP.

I'm very curious to see what the everyday feel of the tune will be with +30 hp/torque.

As an old 60’s muscle car guy, my “Butt Dyno” was telling me that the rated 355 hp was low; felt like my 2013 Boss 302 with 444 hp. Without a tune, this M40i would give the Boss a run for its money. And with a tune, M40 all the way.

It's my understanding that Dinan has a dyno that hooks up directly to the crank so there's no guesswork as to what the crank numbers are. They get some criticism because they usually only post crank and not wheel numbers.

But in this case, they posted both. If they performed a dyno for wheel figures at the same time, this information is extremely useful.

I'm looking forward to seeing guinea pigs and getting an update on the tune.

I will consider it in the new year, depends on others feedback. I also need to push the car a little harder stock so that I know I can feel the difference.

I love the idea of it for the warranty.

BM3 is most likely going to be announced with their flash shortly as well. That is who I am waiting for at the moment. Mission Performance already has a flash tune that is miles better than stock and removes the fuel cap issues and is smooth and has less knock supposedly for our cars. But it's pricey and I think BM3 will be a superior tune...but nothing like the DINAN. An overpriced kit that is essentially another piggy that is a less-featured knock-off of the JB4 in nicer packaging. Branding is real people!

I listed "Wheel Horsepower" not Crank. As listed for Stock: 355hp/369ft/lbs @ the wheels - translates into 445hp/440ft/lbs @ the Crank according to Dinan.

Subject : Install on 2018 X3 M40i
Message: My local BMW shop, has been trying to install my Dinan Stage 1 kit (purchased through them) for two days. They claim they can't contact you to resolve codes thrown when the install is hooked up. Could you please help me by contacting them and straightening their problem out? I know I'm probably one of the first M40i (B58) installs but could really use your help.

In other words, there is something to say about waiting for a guinea pig. Unfortunately I'm the oinker in this case.

The main reason I'm putting this on the web is to hopefully resolve the problems and allow future installs to happen seamlessly. I know Dinan monitors this site so hopefully they will either get my web note or read the attached.

Thanks for being the piggy. Mad props!

I'm guessing Dinan_Engineering will see they're tagged? Love to see how quickly this gets resolved for you.

Curious to see what the reason for the codes is.

With the extra price of the Dinan, I would expect better results

Bump.

Here's hoping that Dinan addresses this issue soon and you have great news to report.

That's similar to my JB4 install experience except for the fact that mine took me 15 minutes, in my own garage while I was drinking an IPA and then it worked perfectly.
