Any Advice for Selling a Used Car?
I've had an ad on Autotrader for several weeks trying to sell my 2017 Audi A4.
I paid for all these extras (like extra reach, etc.) and the only two emails I've gotten about the car have been fraudulent. The car still has a CPO warranty and I feel like I'm priced reasonably, but not super low. Has anyone else recently sold their car privately and have any tips? I feel like we're past the age of Craigslist to sell a ~$30K car, and I put it on Facebook Marketplace to no avail as well. And help would be appreciated! |

Try Carvana. I read on here a few weeks ago that they were making decent offers. You could also look at givemethevin.com. I don't know if he operates in your region or not, but it's likely there are other similar dealers that do. I didn't end up selling to him, but he was $3K over CarMax on my 2010 M3 which I ended up selling to a friend. High quality online retailers like VROOM is another place to check out. It's even likely that there are local specialty pre-owned retailers in your area that you could contact (they have to get their cars somewhere). You likely won't get as much as you could sell it to a private party, but all the risk for you (dealing with test drives, scammers, insuring you get your money) is gone.

I recently bought a new X3 M40i and needed to unload one of my old BMWs. Instead of selling my low-mileage 1994 E34 530i V8, I kept it for my local car and disposed of my 2011 F25 X3 XDrive35i. My local dealer had been sending me offers for quite a bit in trade for a new X3, but I sold or gave it to my son. He sold his low-mileage 2002 E46 320i by listing it on Craig's list for a certain asking price "or best offer" and soon had so many interested buyers that he increased his price about 15%, firm, and sold it for cash the next day.

Relook at your pricing- that is the most common issue re: lack of inquiries when selling a used car, or for that fact just about anything.
Why not an anonymous ad on Craig's? You can screen 100% of the inquiries. A $30K used car is going to take a while to sell, limited market...I would not expect you'd see all that many inquiries regardless of Ad platform(s) you use. Patience required- |
