I believe the radio shut off feature senses whether there is a passenger in the front as well. When driving alone after shut down and I open the door, the radio turns off. When there is a passenger, it remains on, but when they open the passenger door, the radio then shuts off.
It also is a setting in the iDrive menus as well. |

I would also like to know if this is possible in Bimmercode. Call me old-fashioned but I currently have three M cars and I'd like to have them all operate the same, if I can. My M3 and M2 turn everything off with a double press. I agree with all that it's a 'minor' annoyance, but if it can be changed, I would love to make it happen. If it cannot, I can live with it.

Your car remained in Standby State, rather than automatically switching to Idle State.
According to my manual (Pages 41-42), "the idle state is automatically established under the following conditions: After several minutes, if no operation takes place on the vehicle. If the charge state of the vehicle battery is low. Depending on the configuration via iDrive: one or both front doors will be opened after driving when exiting the vehicle. In some situations, the idle state is not set automatically, for instance during a phone call or when the low beams are switched on." So the goal here is to discover what the "some situations" are. LOL I have been on the phone and gotten out of the car. The system remained in Standby State because it would otherwise interrupt my call. I leave my lights in the automatic position and just let them do their thing. Next time I pull into the garage after dark I'll pay attention to what it does when I open the door. I vaguely remember it staying on. So next time it happens to you. Stop and assess what is going on and what you left running. Hope this helps! |

Just picked up my 22 X3MC on Friday and now I understand this annoyance. I'm used to the electronics of any vehicle shutting off once I park the vehicle and exit. The electronics do indeed stay on for about 8mins or so as you stated. Seems like a waste of battery to me. I just now went and grabbed the USB from the X3MC to update some music and even without the key fob present it legit turns on all the electronics and doesn't shut off for the same extended period of time. I sure hope the engineers thought about battery life when they designed this....

For example with a dash cam I had hardwired, it would slowly drain over night, probably couple hundred milliamps. Next morning comfort access would be deactivated and once in the car would get a "battery management malfunction". In this case the electrical system deactivated all unnecessary consumers to protect engine starting as a breakdown is to be avoided at all costs. The car is far smarter than any of you guys will know, even with some of these quirky settings and features like the radio and lights staying on for a while after exiting the vehicle. |

As Nape said, if you press the ignition button twice before any doors open the entire system will shut down once you open the door. No need to change any settings or mess with the radio etc. It becomes second nature after doing it a few times

Or a long press of the radio volume knob shuts off the electronics. That's what I use in the garage. But hit the unlock button first if you want all doors unlocked for access while in the garage.
Or lock the door to shut off most items.

I'm just not sure of the use case of why someone would want the electronics or radio on when you shut off the car. This is especially annoying with my amp/subwoofer. I typically will wait a few seconds and then exit but would prefer everything to shut off when I press the start button to shut off. Interestingly, it WILL shut off the electronics after a time when you are in the car with the engine off waiting for the passenger to get back from the store or something |

Get out and hold the volume knob or lock the car to put it to sleep. It's simple. |

Mine shut off as soon as I open the door unless there is someone sitting in the passenger seat in which case it turn off when the passenger door is open.
Can remember if it was there in my 2020, but there is a menu option under Doors/vehicle access to Turn off vehicle after door opening. |

I have my ID set up as per JJ's post above; I park up, press the red button, (switches engine off), as soon as I open the drivers door (no passengers present) the system powers off.

If the vehicle is off you can just press "Option" on the iDrive controller and select the option to shutoff the system as well.
