Glove Box Repair
Well I tried searching but havent found anything about it yet. I was curious if anyone here has attempted to repair the glove box door. Mine has delaminated to while everything works fine, it just doesnt look very good. I thought about just trying some epoxy or gorilla glue and clamping it to see if it would hold. But thought I would check to see if anyone on here did anything that worked.

Add me to this issue. Wife's X3 is doing the same on the edge nearest the stereo/control stack. Can hear it creaking. Taking it in to the dealer to see if it gets covered under the CPO warranty........

Seems to be a common issue, but as we're trading our 2012 in for a G01 in a few months figured we would let the Dealer handle it as they prep it for re-sale. I was concerned if I didn't do a good job with it I could make the situation worse, but it does seem folks have had success with various adhesives and clamping.

I think Im going to attempt to fix it this weekend if I get a chance. Ill likely see how hard it is to remove the glove box door to do it off the vehicle so I minimize the risk of getting glue on unwanted parts. Ill update if I do it and how it turns out.

Perfect timing, our X3 just started doing this too. Ours isn't quite as bad as that picture but it's the side near the stereo / console. Thanks for the ideas about how to fix.

I just took the whole glove box out. It's pretty easy. Just take the kick panel off (3 torx screws hold it), then remove the torx screws to the glove box. Think there are 6 or 7 of them or something. Then unhook the light bulb and the whole unit pulls out of the dash.

The 2 pieces are pulling about..the cover vs the structure..it's delaminating. Never seen that before. Nice job BMW. My X3 needs to go in for some other minor things..will have dealer deal with it since it's still under CPO warranty. Unless of course they say it's not covered where as then we'll have a disagreement .

Picked up some gorilla glue on Friday, and some clamps and gave it an attempt to fixing it. I did just remove the glove box so i would have better spots to place the clamps, and to avoid getting glue where i didnt want to. Was pretty simple, remove the 3 screws below, then the 6 holding the glove box in, pull out and disconnect wires. Glued it all back together, clamped it for probably 30-45 since i had other things i could tinker on in the garage, then reverse the process. Turned out pretty good and looks much better without that side drooping down.

I had the same issue. It id indeed an easy fix with gorilla glue or similar product. Be sure to keep wipe away any excess glue right away and don't over apply it. I heard it is covered under warranty but I decided to just do a glue repair to save myself the hassle of a service appointment.

I didn't bother taking the glove box apart or removing the door. You definitely need to use clamps and I recommend applying the glue a little at a time, clamping, then applying more next to the clamp and repeating until you have everything clamped together around the glue. Twenty to 30 minutes later it will be good as new.

Glove Box Repair photos
Apologies for not sharing this earlier, but here are some photos of the repair I ended up doing. I shouldn't have waited so long as it definitely would have been simpler had I taken care of it soon after it started delaminating. The main issue I had was the slight curvature of the door didn't allow me to just place wood braces around to then clamp. I used Gorilla Glue (clear). But it worked great - just took a few extra steps as atarivers indicates.

I did mine yesterday. I warmed the cover with a heat gun to soften it up a little, then used a hot glue gun to attach it. Minimal clamping time vs Gorilla glue. We will see how long it lasts.

I would be surprised if this isn't a warranty eligible repair. I didn't bother with that because it's a hassle to get service appointments at my dealer. I just went the gorilla glue route. It worked a treat.
