They're wrong. It's the entire frame. Park Royal replaced the backrest first but the problem returned (seat movement when entering the car) ... they then had no choice but to replace the frame and problem disappeared

Solution found.
I found how to fix it. (brand new x3 m40i)
Move your seat max up and left (to the steering wheel) Return back to your position via memory set number. Do this 5-8 times. No more noises. It may comeback in 3-4 days, re-do the process. And it will be less and less (I realized we have a grease in all connections under the seat. All we need is to spread evenly) |

Mine just started squeaking as well.. from the lower right bolster area. What do you mean by move seat up and to the left. I can obviously move the seat up, but what do you mean by "to the left"? I want to try this method and see if it solves it. Would rather solve it this way for a few years and then right before warranty is up, if there is still any squeak, go in and have it replaced. That way I have a brand new seat as the car ages :-) |

Made my day Btw: My seat was squeeking too! Like a crazy. I let the dealer to fix it and they put some lubricant between frame and upholstery - so far so good, no seat replacement needed. And I am driving every day on the bumps so it's a good test of the work they did. |

Somewhat unbelievably, this seems to have worked for me! Thanks a lot! No idea how long it will last, or whether the frequency of repeating the 'fix' will decline, but for today at least my squeaking is gone. Most enjoyable day driving my car in a while :-) |

Took mine to the dealer this morning on a 9am while you wait appointment. Seat base/frame lubricated and I was away by 9:30am. They have the seat frame parts on provisional order in case the noise comes back. Good service from Vines BMW Guildford.
