I've read numerous places that the X3 has acoustic glass in the front windshield standard, and as an option in the front side windows as an option. I have not acoustic glass side door option anywhere. Can anyone confirm?

I've read that if you look at acoustic glass from the top, you'll be able to see thin black line in the center fo the edge of the glass.

The acoustic glass option for the side windows in not available in the US market.

I'm in Sweden and it wasn't in the online configuration but when I ordered my car my dealer went through all the options with me and that was one of them so I ordered it.

So it seems like some options are only available through the dealer.

It really sucks for all the US customers how many options you are getting cut out of. If it's any comfort I'm paying a lot more for my car. About $90k

It’s a straight swap if anyone is interested. Not sure what’s involved labour-wise when making the switch though.

Sadly, yes, I feel a little better you pay a lot more.

But the car is already pretty quiet as is. Not sure if side acoustic glass would make that much of a difference.

Typically STD glass is 6mm - acoustic 8 mm.

Acoustic will, primarily, reduce high frequent windnoise. It´s up to each and everyone to decide if it is worth while.

There is - apart from engine/exhaust noise/sound- also tire sound, so total gain is limited -unless you have zoomed in on windnoise. Ears/brain are tricky instruments.

In Australia it's not on the configurator OR on the normal options list that was being handed out.

However, if you ask for it, they can still put the code into the order and it spits out a correct build. Maybe the same in other countries.

I see it is an option for US 2020 models now. I’ll be pissed as it was my only complaint in test driving a 2019 model here in Canada as my salesman tried to tell me it had side acoustic glass and i argued it didn’t. Wonder if it now will be offered in Canada too? Why the heck isn’t it standard anyway?

I have it in my 2020, and although I didn't get a test drive / comparison to one without, I know compared with my old 2016 35i it is a huge difference. At 90mph, I can have a whisper quiet discussion with a passenger with no problem.

$90k???? Is that due to import tariffs?

I did not have in my 2018 and 2019 X3. My 2020 has it. I do believe the 2020 is noticeably quiet the 2018 & 19. It must be noted.. all were fairly quiet. By far biggest noise pollutant is the ASD (Audio Sound Design) - that fake noise BMW pumps through the stereo. If you want a quieter X3, use Bimmercode to deactivate ASD.

What I hear is definitely wind noise across the glass and not the ASD. I had the same issue with an F30. Obviously BMW recognizes it as an issue by offering acoustic glass for the 2020 MY. I hope it will be something I will be able to get my dealer to change out when and if it becomes available here. I haven’t even taken possession of my 2019 yet, so perhaps I can get that written into my sales agreement.

What about in Canada? My salesman is certainly not aware of it.
