I charge my iX3 occasionally from a dual plug Rolec 50kW rapid. If I am the only EV owner charging, the rapid outputs at 72kW before falling below 50kW at about 80% SOC. My iX3 does not have the LCI pre-heat.

Hi,
I'm reading this thread and I'm wondering about the pre-heating of the batteries. I'm about to buy a used iX3 from August 2021. I'm not sure I understood correctly : will I miss completely the pre-heating feature or will I just need to start it manually via the menu instead of having it done automatically by the nav system when approaching an charging station? If it is the latter, why the hell didn't they add this feature via an OTA upgrade? |

I'll try to add my 2 cents, only one fast charging in my experience on the trip back when I bought the car. Pre-LCI without pre-heating.
Had an appointment after 315km driving, parked the car for 20 minutes, then drove to the nearest Ionity charger 15km away. Had some trouble because of a transmission bug between BMW Charging and Ionity but that's another story, lost approx 20min with the car sitting there, and then managed to start the charge (so you can estimate how the battery condition was). SOC on start was 6%, at 21h47, peaked to 150kW after 3 seconds : Went away to eat something. SOC at 22:24 was 84%, still charging at 47kW : That was largely enough to finish my trip, but sat in the car and played around with my phone and the BMW app to pair the things, was still charging at 47kW at 22:29 : (times are from the pictures timestamp) Went away 5 minutes later with battery at 94%. I can say I was impressed by the charging time of the iX3, knowing its battery capacity, I've only seen Tesla Y charging with less than 60kWh capacity. |
