Super disappointed when I found out that after June, Spotify was no longer supported on Android for idrive 6. I have a backup iPhone 7,so I downloaded Spotify and Amazon music (which is only an iPhone bmw connected app) to see if that would work better. I found that if I connected via Bluetooth, I could have both phones connected. Galaxy set to phone connectivity and iPhone set to apps and audio. It worked great, I streamed through wifi on the car and my saved songs. Unfortunately, I realized that I could not read or respond to any of my text messages, etc because the iPhone was hooked up to the apps and bmw connected. I unpaired the iPhone from Bluetooth, as I prefer being able to control my galaxy via Bluetooth and all the phone functions. I then realized that I could stream all my music through apps via USB cable on the iPhone, and all my problems were solved. I get to use all my phone functions, and I also get clear sound and the apps through the USB connection. Just thought I'd share. Sorry for the run on sentences.

Or you can just downgrade spotify...

Had the same issue, remove the "upgraded" Spotify version e.g. 8.5.68.904 from your Android device and open page:
https://spotify.en.uptodown.com/android/versions

Then install Spotify version 8.5.66.1002, this fixed it for me.

It works, but Spotify automatically updates, even if I turn auto update off and I have to Uninstall etc. I'll give it a try again though, thank you!

just get a you tube premium for just 12 bucks a month and forget about all these Spotify and other shit. no ads and u can lock a phone screen with video playing on a background. 2 years with it so happy. if drive with smone I just switch it to my hard-drive with 1TB memory so passengers can watch video while driving.

Follow the steps mentioned below to disable specific apps from updating themselves.

Open Google Play Store App on your device.
Tap on Menu option on the top left corner of the screen.
Tap on My Apps and Games.
Under Installed Tab, select the app you wish to change the auto-update option.
Click on More option on the top right corner of the App Home Screen.
Uncheck the ‘Auto-update‘ option on the prompt.

On successful completion of the above steps, auto-updates for specific apps will be disabled.

Spotify disabled support for a a4a (apps for automotives for Androids) around July or August update so you have to use an older version to connect the Spotify bmw app now
