I can’t even renew with my current insurer as RSA ceased covering cars in Sep. Seem to recall something about Swinton buying their renewal base, so that will be a complete non starter as Swinton operates in an alternate reality, and is just a broker.

Funnily enough my bike is insured with Swinton as they were the cheapest. BMW S1000R cost £105 and I got £26 cashback so £79 for a 160bhp motorbike weighing less than 200kg

Every time I’ve had a quote from Swinton it’s been at least 5 x the best quote from the usual big names.

Won’t even waste my time anymore.

My LCI X3 M40d was just over £400 earlier this year.

Swinton is ok (price) until you have to make a claim or contact them then the difficulties start, this was my experience several years ago anyway.

They just have individuals in the shops. No customer service centre. So each time you call you get put through to a person in a different shop and it was hard to get hold of them.

Never again.

I had a little accident in my Golf R prior to purchasing my M40d, I was with Admiral at the time. The whole process was relatively simple and straightforward, I was at fault but everything was dealt with efficiently and with very little hassle.
I paid a little more money for my policy with them but it paid me back in dividends with the hassle free claim, point being sometimes you have to pay a little extra for a good insurance policy and cheaper isn’t always better.

That said, I do feel the insurance companies are taking the p##s, not all of them but a vast percentage of them….and they need to be reigned in.

Well I have had a right win today.

My X3 and the wife's Corsa are both due for renewal (Churchill and Saga respectively). mine was up by £235 and hers up by £127.
In total would have been £1,071 for the pair.

I phoned Admiral on a multi car policy (my daughter already covered by them) and got both the X3 and the Corsa insured on a 9 month renewal for just £521. Pro rata that's almost exactly the same as I was paying this year (~£700).

I have the hassle of renewing again in 9 months rather than 12 but well happy with that given current renewal prices.

U R ONE lucky SOB. Seriously lucky. But yeah - get Santa to bring some lube dude for '24. A friend of mine pinged me earlier saying "dude insurance has gone up". I was like yeah yeah, know all about that since my yearly price has been around 500 was time, when I renewed in September it was £900 renewal (I never go straight for renewal but this time amazingly was cheaper than the others).

I'm not going to much into details since I have till next September, but I got a new quote off Saga and that £900 has turned into £1700. Not that I need it but I'm like :-|

So they did another hike? How in the hell they justify another one :-(

You wouldn’t want to be younger than 24 in the UK just now trying to get car insurance, irrespective of that….looks like every age group is being completely screwed over!

Best I’ve seen so far is £681, and last time it was around £430.

Saga wanted some ridicules amount, so guess I don’t fit their risk sweet spot

So......

If the 'cost of repairs' (which I take to mean uplift in materials & labour costs) has gone up by 32%, does that then mean the Insurers are taking a 20% slice of the action on top of that?

In spite of the assertion that this is 'the price paid' I suspect the above "increases" are based on the uplift you'd get if you just accepted the first renewal quote you got. For example, my own renewal was just over 50% higher, but after I told them to do one, they swiftly brought it down to about 19%

Mrs BT was similar, ended up going from Esure to BMW Flex and the premium was slightly lower than before.

That said, some people don't/can't/won't negotiate with these sharks...

My last quote was £1000 from BMW Flex, that was about 6 weeks ago, all others was astronomical. So when my insurance is up in early April, hopefully it’s still £1000 or below.

Just setup a new policy with Admiral after my current insurer, MoreThan, stopped offering car insurance at renewal. It sold its car customer base to Swinton.

Paid £430 last year, and the Swinton renewal was £1800+ via AXA, which is a tad more than £720 Admiral offered. Plus the pano roof is under windscreen/glass cover excess.

Also looked at a BMW Flex subscription which was around £130 per month, so a no go.

I have just renewed the wifes Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost. Last year was £135, this year £125, so the increases are not across the board. I also got £40 cashback on that so £85 for the year. There must be a lot of claims on X3s to justify keep increasing quotes like this although I have just done a quote and it is coming out about £55 less than I paid in November at £523

I feel bad for you folks over there, but we just got our annual policy renewal information last week for the extended metro Boston area (Salem MA) in our case my 2011 Buick Lucerne beater is at almost $1000, my spouse's 22 Q5 is at almost 1600, and my 23 X3 is strangely at 1300, so 300 cheaper than her Audi. Clean driving records and one of us gets an over 65 old geezer discount. So $3900 for the 3 cars. Last year, same company, etc, was $2600.

The car age, value, model, when you bought it all make a difference. What is the age of your X3 ?

At £67 a month that’s £804 annual, so more expensive as I’m also protected NCB. IIRC Flex is underwritten by LV, and I’m not sure if they cover glass pano roof under Windscreen excess rules.

we are kind of getting to the point where the govt needs to start getting involved on insurance across the board... but they wont... why? because well.. you know

It's a 2020. £804 is expensive, almost £300 more than my cheapest annual quote.

From brand new my LCI was £340, but has now more than doubled. The only thing that changed is we got older, the NCB got longer, and the car value decreased. Go figure.

The MHEV tech seems to make a difference, as the cost is less on the same model without it.
