Just checked with Admiral ... premium imcrease for "non standard wheels" is £13, which includes an admin fee of £13! 😄

I know I got a bargain what with all the other quotes being £1200+ but you lot being quoted in the couple of thousands I feel your pain guys
Hope that’s not me next year
I’m hoping that’s not me as well lol. I was gutted when it went up by £115 to £430 ! Seems some insurers have fallen out with the X3 M40 and above.

Admiral wanted a 60% uplift at renewal last month, did a bit of digging and challenged them to price match (IIRC BMW Flex was one of the best)

I'm at £598 a year fully comp, protected NCD, Legal cover with a £350 excess, wife insured plus business use. No mods. That's about a 19% uplift from the previous year. Admiral price-matched without any quibbles, it was almost a formality, so just shows you (a) they're at it and (b) the UK Gov legislation to prevent price-gouging existing customers is toothless. Pretty much like every attempt at regulation.

Mrs BT got quoted a 90% uplift on her cover from Esure, ended up getting the exact same cover from BMW Flex for £80 a year less. Didn't bother messing about with trying to get them to price match, the guy she spoke to was pretty resigned to us moving by the sound of things. There'll inevitably be another mug along soon enough that will pay full price.

The usual comparison sites ... Meerkat and Go compare give me similar results.
Anyone had any success this year with sensibly priced UK insurance.

Apologies for the film reference but "Help me Obi Wan"
Try BMW Flex - we found it very competitive. It's more like a monthly subscription policy rather than a traditional annual one.

Mine isn't due until November but just did a comparison to see what it is looking like. When I got the car in April I transferred my insurance so not sure what the full price would have been but in the region of around £340, that's based on £180 for the policy on my 330i and an additional premium of £90 to swap to the X3 with 7 months left to run so about an extra £160 for the year. Cheapest quote is with NCI at £487 and Darwin is coming out at £540 so a £200 increase. I will have to see what my renewal quote is in a few months especially as I have had a windscreen claim.

Just tried them, came out at £52.70 a month so £632 a year so about £150 more expensive than my cheapest quote but not unreasonable

Never tried BMW’s flex before, I’ll have to give it a mental note to try next year.

What is useful in the index you can access at the end which shows how your answers compare against a max score=lower cost. Still looked very expensive for me.

Given the price of some of the quotes, I’ll be searching all avenues for a good deal.

Can't resist stopping by this thread. The crown of probably-most-expensive-insurance-paid must stay with me.

I'm trying to get into an X3MC at the moment

I was having a look at that, it is quite interesting. Because I have only had the car a few months I am being hit for that, so after another year that should improve. For area, I score 91/119, great, but drilling down, area and crime score really high, 75/78 and 16/16, but country 0/25. How can England score 0?

It is worth doing a quote just so you can see where your higher risk factors are

0 for the country is strange, but it is interesting to see the impact or other changes.

Time with car is odd, and doesn't seem to factor if you've driven the same model before this one.

"Social only" cover increased my quote cost compared to social and commuting ??? Job title and industry were other bizarre changes. Sat in an office doing the same work in industry A, is considered a higher risk than doing the same job in industry B LOL.

Value and time drive was a bad score for me something like 3 out of 47 !!

Just goes to show the BS they use

I added commuting (retired so not required) and it knocked £2 a month off. Strange as I would have thought commuting during peak hours was a higher risk. I also added a year to ownership and it knocked £3 a month off. Interestingly, although adding commuting reduces the premium, adding a job increased it. Go figure

It wouldn’t surprise me if car insurance prices were like flight fairs, they go up and down to suit

AA are appalling on price, same as More Than which is always apparent!

I’m currently with MoreThan at £430 earlier in the year, but I won’t be able to renew as they are pulling out of the UK car insurance business in Q3 23.

Rumour is that it is selling it’s customer renewals to Swinton, so that will be a silly expensive price.

Wow, I feel like I have just been violated. I changed cars in April so my insurance was a mix of 4 months on the 330i and 8 months on the M40i, total cost £330. Renewal came through with Darwin at £640 with a windscreen claim, 9 years NCD, no convictions, SDP only, no commuting. Having shopped around, the best price was with Churchill, £542 for essentials policy or £590 for standard policy, the excess being £100 lower at £350, and included miss fueling, lost keys, driving other cars, child seat replacement and free legal cover, all of which were excluded under the essentials policy. I went with the standard policy at £590, £36 cashback from Top Cashback brings that down to £554 and £250 excess cover from GoCompare brings the excess down to £100, but even so it is still significantly more than 8 months ago.

You’ll almost require an aircraft crash safety brief prior to calling the insurance company.
