UK Insurance ... Again

To the UK members.

I know we had a long thread about this last year but here we are again.

My renewal last year with LV was £600 ish and the renewal is over £1000

I know inflation is a thing but flippin eck. almost 70% increase

The usual comparison sites ... Meerkat and Go compare give me similar results.
Anyone had any success this year with sensibly priced UK insurance.

Apologies for the film reference but "Help me Obi Wan"

This year my insurance renewal was around £430 (£700 xs) with MoreThan. However, I believe they are moving out of the motor insurance business.

This was an increase on the previous year of around £315.

I suspect we will see a massive increase.

Think I was doing quite well back in April to get £600 with a £1200 excess, I dread to think what next year will be. That’s with Aviva….still ridiculous pricing as some individuals were being quoted well over £1000, with some being quoted near £2000.

Yeah things are getting a little crazy in the UK, every company is jumping on the ‘we must put our prices up” bandwagon.

Aviva is £1500 for me .. increasing the excess to 1k+ drops it by £30.

The worlds gone mad

Hastings was the only sensible quote I got. Renewal came through at £150 more than last year with no changes. I phoned them, told them I could get it cheaper (I couldn’t) and they came down by £100. So I’m paying £500 fully comp. £250 excess.

£860 last year, £1400 this year for my X3 with LV with a £400 excess.

When changing to the X4 (4 days after renewal) it would have gone up to £1700, so switched to Admiral for 'just' £1300. 🙄

These are crazy times.

Hastings was traditionally one of the lower cost options, but it appears they no longer offer new quotes on the M40, or at least not for me LOL.

To make you guys feel a bit happier ..

I sold my X3 M40i which was costing me £675 ish .. and moved to a RAV4 phev …. Which it seems has a huge theft problem - as in crazy easy to steal. Insurance at renewal for the RAV4 was going to be £2,950

… so it got sold before renewal !

I am now back in a BMW which BMW themselves are now the cheapest to insure with after a few years when they weren’t. Try them again as they beat Admiral on my M240i xdrive by £300 at £850 vs £1150 plus their excess was £150 less at £350 too.

Just got a quote and they are £1450 pa so slightly more expensive than Admiral, but not as far away as I would have assumed.

Yup, when there's underlying "acceptance" of increased costs due to x, everyone jumps on the bandwagon.

Apparently, pet care is the next to be investigated as indi vets are wallowed by large groups and prices soar.

The UK car insurance industry badly needs a serious dose of regulation and investigation. Yes, parts and labour shortages mean that repairs are more expensive but inflated claims, insane courtesy car charges, fraud, etc., are leading to ridiculous premiums. The level of crime (both theft from and theft of) is something that we all indirectly pay for as well, and not just in insurance terms.

When I got the policy for my M40i, none of the mainstream insurers on comparison sites would allow me to specify, or ask any questions, about the two "mods" I wanted to make - PPF and the freedom to switch to winter wheels when I felt like it. Many insurance companies, with not yet being a policy holder, I couldn't even get in touch with to ask anyone.

Spoke to a few brokers who advertise themselves as being perfect for non-standard type insurance needs, and their quotes were even more ridiculous, in the region of £2k. Amazing level of cover, for sure, but also some quite restrictive terms and conditions - these being policies normally aimed at supercar owners rather than just fast SUVs.

Went with NFU Mutual in the end, they were a bit more expensive than the mainstream but nowhere near the silly brokers, and totally supportive/fine with PPF and changing wheels, and good terms and customer service so far too.

You’d think that changing wheels during the winter months for dedicated winter tyres etc would help reduce your policy costs but it doesn’t as they class it as a modification, that’s how money hungry/greedy the insurance industry is…..to say it’s corruption is an understatement.

Insured the X3 Comp with Aviva for £750 and that includes exhaust modifications which it hasn’t had yet other than a valve controller that is. I could also add an engine tune for the same cost but I won’t go down that route with how new the car is and of course does really need it. All other quotes came in around £1200 and above.

Also don’t forget to check that the windscreen cover also covers the pano roof if you have one. Most don’t when you go into the T&C’s. Hastings do which is another reason I went with them.

Wow that’s an amazing price for X3MC with a market value of £76k.

My quote with tracker is in the thousands, and that’s with max no claims, and multiple mature clean licence drivers.

I also have GAP, but is new car replacement cover for 4 years.

Canada's not any better gents, lest you think it might be unique to the U.K. Rates for my wife's '23 x1 are $1,800 annual, my (now sold) '20 x3mc was over $2,100 and my new '23 A4 Allroad (thankfully) has DROPPED to $1,425...but still, the surrounding area of Toronto has the highest rates in the country due to high number of auto thefts and stupid frivolous lawsuits

I also have max no claims but only one other driver, the wife.
I kept mixing the modifications like tuning, exhaust mods etc and the price remained the same! Only the loan car, Road side assistance, personal injury, protected no claims etc made any difference.
AND the price I am paying includes monthly payments!
I know I got a bargain what with all the other quotes being £1200+ but you lot being quoted in the couple of thousands I feel your pain guys
Hope that’s not me next year
