I've ordered a few first year cars before but I never hold onto a car longer than a year or two before trading... Worst to date is probably a Dodge Magnum for me... So far the BMW is doing very well other than ambient light issues that should be fixed after the parts come from Germany. I was told it has an IP address and needs to be coded beyond what the dealer can do, has to be done by the MFR.

I too have this issue with my July 2018 build M40i.
I didn't notice it on the 2018 that I test drove initially, but the vehicle I ended up having has the issue. I'm not sure of the build date of the demo I drove. I find that holding the steering wheel at the 9 and 3 o'clock position make it most noticeable. Holding it at 12 or 6 o'clock reduces the amount of vibration felt. I'm thankful it is only at idle (as opposed to while it is being driven), as I had a similar issue with my M4 that took 7 weeks in the shop to resolve. It is one of those things where I'd like to take it in to get evaluated, but to be honest, it doesn't bother me enough right now to go through the hassle of setting up a service appointment and leaving the vehicle with them. I'm interested to follow this thread and see if anyone is able to get BWM to resolve the issue. |

Not sure if my car had actually improved (or if I had merely gotten used to the minor temporary vibration when cold). I have totally forgotten about this until today when someone bumped this thread. I'll keep an eye on it in the next few days...

Same deal here. Vibration during idle. Started at about 1400 miles. Car is at the dealer as of yesterday and they kept it overnight. Shop foreman acknowledged something was wrong and agreed with my complaint. I purchased my vehicle in March of 2019. Got a good deal because it was a leftover from 2018. The production date is March of 2018. Fingers are crossed they figure it all out today.

Sorry for the update delay. Dealer said it was normal and could not explain why I didn't feel it until after 1K miles. It's still happening at idle and also noticed when driving on the highway at certain lower RPMs. Possibly worse than when it started. Going back to the dealer on Friday for a rattle/creak in the driver's side door. Will mention it again. Another post mentioned a possible problem with the power steering. Wish me luck!

Went to M drove event ans drove the X3M not a hint of rattle or vibration from the steering wheel at any time. As i was leaving another M40 was pulling in and i stopped to ask him if he has felt anything like that and he has not. He let me in his car and there was no vibration. I have driven 100 different cars of all types and i cant ever remember feeling vibration like this from the steering wheel at idle while stopped.

I have about 4,400 miles on my 2019 M40I and I do notice the vibration at idle in the steering wheel. It bugs me sometimes more that others but I really don't think there will ever be an actual fix?

Has anyone got a fix for this at all? any advice or suggestions will be much appreciated. I also have the exact same steering wheel vibration problem with my 2018 X3 M40i!

The car is new to me, had many cars before this and never had vibrations like this at idle even with diesel engines! It doesn’t feel normal! Hopefully someone has an update!
