UK X3 35d 8jx18" wheels - Is a 225 tyre a good idea?

ATS Euro master have 225/40/18 tyres at £105 a tyre fitted. That's just a ridiculously good price.
I would normally go for 235 tyres.
The 35d has some poke but I tend to drive sensibly most of the time.

Do you think the handling will suffer if I switch to 225? It a £350 saving.

that's one size too small.. is that sizing for a BMW X1? Stock tire size is 245/50/18. Your tire will be narrower and lower/smaller.

Why not go 205, they'll even be cheaper yet
Seriously though, match the tire size with the sticker on the door jamb for optimal results

225 is suitable for 8" wheels it's just would it be a noticeable impact?

Besides matching the tires to the rim width, match the tires to the vehicle, but if you want to run undersized, tires have at it.
Not only will it look odd, the narrow width will have less grip as well as the rpm will be higher at a given speed
