Problem already
So, was due to pick my car up tomorrow at 10:30, dealer calls me at 15:45 and says ‘small problem, there’s a chip on the drivers door, we don’t know how it’s got there, we can put it right by spraying it but it won’t be ready for tomorrow’.
Now here’s the dilemma, do I want a brand new car that’s been repaired ? The dealer has already said they won’t offer me any compensation for taking time off work (too late to cancel it) etc My main concern is a damage repaired car is worth less than a car that has no paint, am I being silly here ? |

Personally I would take a look at their work post touch-up and decide then. If not an obvious fix, then I'd likely still take the vehicle (as long as it wasn't an AW Pearl which is difficult to match).

They aren't gonna change the whole door all they will do is repair it to a standard that unless they had called you and told you about it you probably would not be able to tell it had been chipped and resprayed. Look at it the other way, at least they were honest and didn't just say "there's a delay with registration" or something come back in 3 days. It is what it is tbh, I wouldn't get too worked up about it imho .

that is a real downer.
Mines has a scratch on the bumper that i drove away with and they will pay for the fix (once i decide how i want it fixed). Another thing to think about.......Are you PCP and likely to hand it back in 3 or 4 year? Then dont worry!!! |

Not great as you want it to be perfect at least on the day you pick it up, however many cars get damaged before they reach the new owner hence BMW have a massive facility to repair them as they come off the ship, I think it's knowing that causes the pain.

I would likely skip delivery as I’m OCD like that. It’s not easy being like this, but the purchase of a new vehicle should not include damage. |

You don't even like the seat belts so what chance have they got.....thousands of cars are damaged during shipping, it happens everyday, they are repaired and delivered and you'll never know, if the OPs car is repaired so he can't tell then all is fine.

I would also feel obligated to inform a future buyer if I had body work/paint done. If I don’t know I can’t do anything about it, obviously. I feel the same way about bringing a vehicle in for service and they damage it. Don’t care for that either. The important thing is everyone has different opinions and we are all entitled to them. |

I would tell them I will take it whomever I choose to make the repair and you pay the bill. Find the best body shop in your area.
If that happened to me, I would take it to A&L Autobody.

I was the same - Full trade in price of the car of just less than £20k. After 3 years the GFMV is the same so what difference does it make? In my case the monthly is £135 - would have been £685 or so otherwise IIRC. I think there was nothing in either approach - except now i dont have £20k in my pocket that I would piss up against the wall! |

I put in £10k, it was my cash fund and earning less than BMW charge in interest. I wouldnt take money out of my ISA to fund it as that earns more than the interest rate.... |
