At slower speeds, especially with AWD, a modern turbo that makes full torque at low RPM will be just as fast accelerating and unless you are going to crazy speeds all the time, a car like the charger is a big waste IMO. I'd much rather have a 535/540 m-sport and those will keep up for the relevant speeds unless you really are taking the car to the quarter mile for "drag races".
My wife drives a 430i GC and it is not even close. At any speed or in any situation. I like mine because it is big, comfortable, and it hauls. Not married to it long term, lease will be up in less than two years, but it has been fun. At $630 a month, not really breaking the bank. Tires and gas do add up though.

I'm more interested in challengers because they can be had with 6mt. don't want an auto because with auto, I start to zone out quickly and get sleepy, especially during the morning commute. and I won't be able to use my phone with 6mt

I take it that charger absolutely smokes the 430 in any situation, right?

Yes. It sometimes has trouble putting the power down, resulting in a lot of wheelspin. Once it's moving though, it's no joke.

A decent set of slicks will help with traction.

Would you marry that hot girl from college who's now in her late 30's and just ended her second marriage?

I would not, but doesn't mean I would not have some fun. I don't know why some people are so negative about the cars in question. The question is not whether they are better than BMWs. I'm keeping mine, but want to replace my b8 s4 project. Imo, it's in the same niche as challenger, also a heavy car, not great around the turns, more comfortable and less engaging as e90. A cruiser, that is, which is also a pain to work on, not reliable and with expensive parts. Figuring charger and challenger will do the same stuff but with less fuss and broken dsg transmission.

I was specifically referring to charger vs elantra. I would never get an elantra unless I had no option financially.

Any forum is likely to be negative towards Chrysler products, especially Dodge, mainly because they are built poorly, don't hold value, and there's one on every corner due to Chrysler's non existent lending standards. Why does that matter? Brand dilution, driving anything less than a Hellcat means you might as well be driving a Corolla. It's a platform that's almost a decade old.

Figured challenger could be even better since it comes with a manual as well. Would you get a 2010-2012ish one?
Having driven both they are apples and oranges.

NVH/comfort goes to the challenger/charger. Also trunk space and rear seat, even in the 2 door charger it beats the 4 door elantra.
The FCA twins certainly cruise the highway better, even the smallest engine in the twins is more peppy than the largest in the elantra (and you'll likely pay for it a hair in gas).

However, the FCA machines are extremely large machines. Parking them in a garage is dicey, and the challenger has big blind spots.
You'll get better gas mileage and cheaper insurance in the elantra.
Driving the elantra reminds me of the sport compact days, and the FCA twins of big american muscle.
It's certainly easier to park the elantra, and the elantra is less 'showy'.

Personally? If they made the charger 20-30% smaller it would be great. That it's an old platform doesn't mean anything other than it's gotten the bugs out. In terms of safety they are equal.

Of course finding a used elantra is easier than the FCA twins because there were fewer variations : ) but because the depreciation was a bit steeper on the FCA cars you will find them with more options potentially at the same price. Of course your mileage may vary.

Only because I got a charger r/t instead of elantra as my rental. Since they ran out of these, they gave me a charger which in their view was a worse rental because it had worse gas mileage. I am not even thinking of getting an Elantra at all and not comparing these cars.

Just last night I was building a 2020 Scat Pack Charger Widebody on their site. My loaded-out Scat Pack build is at least $20k less expensive ($57k) than my Hellcat build! The new widebody version is sweet with its revised suspension and 6-piston Hellcat brakes. I really like it, but in the end, I'd personally probably buy an M340i instead. It just feels like too old of a platform.

im pretty impressed with how slow the redeye is given the horsepower

an old M6 4 door is down by 240hp ... but still turns a faster lap and the same 1/4 mile numbers.
