I just got of the phone with BMW Genius. It seems that my build is set for production between week 35 (end of August) and week 44 (last week in October). Week 44 is the absolute latest it will be built. It could be built in any week between those dates. Apparently they keep trying to fit it in to the production schedule. It's really a crap shoot. Obviously week 35 and 36 are over. Week 37 ends on 9/11. He said it would not go past week 44. ​

Where are the dealerships coming up with these delivery times? It seems they are giving the best case scenario only.

Yes. He said when ordered it was requested for week 35. Then it was moved out to week 44. He said it could be built any week between those weeks depending on whether a production slot can be found. I asked if it it was possible for it to go beyond week 44. The Genius said that week was set in concrete in that’s the last week that build could be produced. I also learned that it will show the current status of “Order Accepted” until a slot becomes available which could be days or weeks. Also vehicle status updates are done realtime.

What do I know. This is the first time I have ordered a vehicle. I guess the best thing to do is to order and then forget about it until someone calls and says your X3 is here.

You were able to select the Drive Recorder? That option didn't pop up for me in the builder online…

It's not an option on the online configurator, but the dealer can select it when inputting an order.

Update - 9/13/2021. Moved from week 44 to week 48. That's Sunday 11/20 - Saturday 11/26. Wondering if I should just cancel and re-order sometime in 2022 when things settle down.

I placed an order for a X3M40i 3 days ago. Was told the closes allocation the dealer has is a week 48 built. So lets keep each other updated how things develop.

So it appears there are production line issues with some of the options I selected for my X3. There are shortages affecting the Shadowline Package and the M-Sport Package wheels.

I think to a lot of people Shadowline became a must with the LCI... At least on the M40i. The standard treatment with the chrome surrounding the black grill bars just looks a little odd to my eyes... And really accentuates the "sunglasses" look.

For those of you waiting like I am, you may want to check with BMW Genius as my production date actually improved by 4 weeks since I called last week:

9/3 - Order placed for week 38 build
9/8 - Build date pushed to week 45
9/20 - Build date improved to week 41

Hope it sticks and good luck out there...

Did you spec the carbon fiber interior trim? I've seen some conjecture that's causing delays.

That's a big jump from 41 to 48. I also ordered on 8/20 and originally had a week 37 (I think) build. According to the tracking site and my dealer it should be produced this week and finished no later than next week which makes it a week 38 or 39 I guess.

I've been following the posts about delays and I don't see any specific option that could be causing this as my order has everything on yours, but who knows.

Ordered 8/28, told I was scheduled for a 10/4 production date. Went from order received -> production scheduled -> back to order received.

Called Genius last Friday and they said that I'm scheduled to enter production on 10/9 (Saturday?) and finish on 10/15, but I have no clue how accurate this is especially given that I'm still in the order received status.

I started with week 35. It went to week 44. A week later it went to week 48. Today it is at week 47. Of course this is all subject to change which could be good or bad.

No I did not order the carbon fiber trim. I went with the Ash grain trim.
