"it's coming" has been the default response for a while unfortunately. Obviously not their fault but damn let's go! Ready for their springs too.

I'm still waiting, confirmed still in their queue, after placing the order on Apr 4, 2021...

Anyone received the exhaust in recent days, and how long since you placed the order? I guess it's pointless question, but still ...

Hello,

Anyone that has this axle back exhaust installed, quick question:

On the day of the installation and perhaps lasts few more days (???), after engine shut off, did you notice exhaust white smoke coming out for ~30 secs or so from the inside two tips (inside tips are the one that attach directly to muffler, no flaps on them)?

Talking to Dinan tech support, this would be expected (???) during few days of break-in period.

Thanks.

Likely shipping oil burning off. I look forward to hearing what they have to say as this is likely on my "what's next" list.

Some additional smoke emission for the initial couple days after install is expected. What it is is the internal bags/packing being burned off inside the muffler. You would have also noticed those first couple days smelled a bit different (like burnt plastic). You can speed up this process by just getting the exhaust system very hot (spirited driving) for a bit but even if you don't and just drive normally the bags will usually be fully burnt off in a few days.

Yep, smoke gone. Smell is going away.

Now just waiting on the black tips to ship to me to swap with the polished ones.

Thanks.

Dinan_Engineering I recently purchased a 2020 X3MC that already had a Dinan exhaust installed, but it rattles really bad. it will even rattle on sports + and valve setting open.

i really love the sound and look, really don't want to get rid of it.

I called and spoke to someone who told me there is a repair kit, but that he couldn't tell me when those would be available to sell, as he could not send me one through warranty since i did not purchase the exhaust originally. i believe that's a yucky way of going about this. i get it i wasn't the original buyer, but that shouldn't limit me from buying a repair kit.

Please help me out. i understand the whole world is going through a part shortage, but there's gotta be 1 kit that can be sold to me.

thanks in advance.

Did they say what sort of repair kit, where the repair is made?

Is this on older production units?

I assume whomever you spoke to is referring to the revised bracket kit to alleviate rattling on some of the early production builds. First step though would be to determine if that is already on the vehicle (revised brackets have been included on everything after the launch run). If it is already used then its a seperate issue that will require some troubleshooting. Regardless, there is zero reason you should have been denied access so I would be really curious who you spoke to. Call back at 1-800-341-5480 and ask to speak to Ryan or Levi and they can assist in identifying what you have already and going from there.

Yes it is 100% what was explained on that thread. My X3 had to visit the dealer for an unrelated issue, but i asked them to take a look at the exhaust just to see if they can see something out of the ordinary, but they said they really couldn't see anything out of place. They did send me a short vid showing that the exhaust rattle even at the slightest nudge, and it is true. i can go under the car and sort of bang the exhaust with my hand and it will rattle.

when i originally called, i wasn't told too much about the repair kit.. just that there was one.

Thank you for the response. I really want to thing that the first owner did not have this issue looked at, simply because i ended up finding him on a Facebook F97 group (He was trying to sell me the stock exhaust back) and he mentioned it rattled from day 1 of install, but did not mention contacting Dinan about it, or if it had been worked on because of that issue.

i honestly wish i could remember the name of the person i spoke with, but at this point, its really about getting the exhaust fixed, so again, thank you for your response, i will be making contact soon!

For the rattling, you need to bend the heat shield back on the passenger side near the exhaust tips. I had bad rattling at first until that was done. It's in the Dinan instructions to do so, but it's easily skipped.

Much delayed, sorry had an out of state move so things have been hectic last couple of weeks.

But here is a cold start video with the Dinan axleback and RG Sport midpipe:

Once the cold start settles around the 35 second mark, it sounds REALLY good.

Stock sizes, but they're Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4. Also with only ~1K miles on them so they're basically new.

Currently running a base muffler with the Dinan midpipe. Contemplating changing to the comp one or Dinan. Thoughts on which route to go? I've watched the videos but it's hard to really appreciate the differences. Thanks

The Dinan axleback will definitely be louder than the Competition exhaust. I prefer the Dinan but I have no kids, rarely have passengers or those that I do don't care about the volume.

All that said I am really happy with the Dinan. Definitely gives it an aggressive sound.
