2020 x3m 12k miles diff is dead

just for the info, went on dealer for oil change and some clunking metal clicks coming from the back, SA called me back next day, said I ordered a new diff for you, it's fucked. 12k miles, daily driven no flooring, no racing just spirited driving on highway to the work and back home and 1 lunch for the whole mileage I have on a car. shame quality on new cars present time unfortunately.
thank God my SA doesn't play games and just getting the job done in right way.

That's what warranties are for. Unless there becomes some type of mass failure or recall, every product on the planet has an expected failure rate. Some are 5%, 10%...some are higher. Looks like you got one that failed. It doesn't reflect necessarily on the quality of other differentials or new cars in general.

I would agree this doesn’t seem like a pervasive issue. If build anything in a large volume, there are going to be a fraction of them with defects. I would be happy it happened during warranty period.

how long will it take to get the parts and make the repairs? are they giving you a loaner or does your auto insurance have to give you one?

Mine took a shit last year too. It didn't clunk though, it started making a high pitched screeching noise. I was able to drive it while they ordered the parts to replace it and it took them a day to do it. I think it took about 2 weeks to get the parts in when they ordered it last year. Mileage it happened at was around 12-14k IIRC.

I was waiting my appointment for 2 weeks cause dealer came down from 40 loaners to 20. I have now 330i with 9k miles on it. never seen that before, used to be max 4k. inventory is very low about just 15 new cars on a lot..
he said about 5 days to get diff delivered from Cali. I'm on loaner since last Friday.

I'm not the only one, as I hear around. we got same diff as m5, I know that people are furious on them and nothing happening, change the diff fluid and keep rolling. here I'm at normal driving enjoying the platform and it's failed. Just was very surprised that diff issue. I thought it will be either suspension or driveshaft bearing which connects shaft with diff.

I'm surprised transmission warranty wasn't affected -- I'd feel fortunate the diff and loaner is being covered if I had a tune. Even if it was a mild stage 1. 😅

Its one thing to be pissed about a broken car. But second thing you should be very happy to get dealer to repair a modified car under warranty.

I would sell. This is a first model year vehicle they used to test the S58 motors. Mine was out of service for over 35 days and SA blamed me for it until corporate refuted the SA.

The diff must have been pretty defective since you don't abuse your car on a daily basis.

What? I've not had a single issue with my 2020 and I don't recall a rash of threads here of people with issues.

You mean to tell me BMW actually stocks a part in this country? Or are you saying it's coming from Cali in Columbia?

Could've been a faulty part, who knows. Not every failure is chalked up to user error.

but what to get instead? 330i for 550 a month? yesterday friend of mine put 20k down and get x6m50i. his payment is 1k a month still. 500$ discount from the whole deal or smth like that. stupid. m3 is 1400k a month and 5k down, da fak is that type of deal.

that's what GM of service told me. he said I usually don't involve in repairs like very deeply, but on my car he said he was since the beginning cause this is very unusual issue. and he made a decision to get me a brand new right away. because I service my car properly and do oil changes every 4k with them since the day 1. valued customer treats differently =)
