Had this done a few years ago. You need an official FSC code which must be uploaded to the car and then additional coding work. Best to get a specialist coder to do this for you. Will cost around £300.

I tried having this retrofitted to a 2017 F36 however was told by one of these specialist coders that I’d need a specific front facing camera which my spec didn’t have. Whilst I have headlight beam control sensors and a raft of other ones, he could confirm through a photo of the windscreen just by my rear view mirror that I was missing one component in particular to allow this.

He also said that I’d need a different type of front windscreen presumably to allow the camera to survey the road so basically didn’t bother to quote because of all of this hassle.

My wife’s 2015 Q3 has it on her GPS purely based on geo and memory of the GPS, ie not dynamic scanning of the road. I’d have happily had this but not sure if it can be coded on to I drive or if you’d need an android head unit to allow this.

I also recall some issues with it then displaying on my HUD - ie even if some GPS version was coded in, for some reason it’d only display on the GPS and not in my HUD which is how it would have worked if I went OEM.

Just some thoughts but things may have now moved on etc and this is on a different and older model.

All pre LCI G01 X3s in the UK have KAFAS camera which is what's needed for Speed Limit Information. It's just not activated by BMW on models without the driving assistance packages. Once activated it shows up in the dash and on the HUD if you have it.

I don't have this enabled on my car either but when I had a much lower spec -X1 as a short term loaner from the dealer that had it

Bonkers that you have to pay £300 for a safety feature which is already built into the car but just not enabled

Was thinking of this as well but heard (on a thread on here which is below)
that any subsequent official BMW software updates you have will wipe the coding. Then you will have to pay again...

As the coding is not part of your stock car configuration stored in ISTA, every software flash during a service visit can remove the function again, which is the reason the dealerships are not willing to do such changes.

So your only way to get is a local coding service. Cost is about €200,-

Yes but it's rare that a dealer will do a software update when in service. So ironically it's a benefit of having a pre LCI car where software updates are not pushed OTA.

I did a google search and came up with this if it helps. They might also be able to answer the question if software updates delete this feature.

My 2020 X3 was delivered with 2019 software and as I could not update remotely dealer updated.
I wanted the Android Auto and now on 2021 software..
Trick would be to get software updated before coding.
