This thread is really making me want to pull the trigger on a Rolex Batman. If only the waiting list weren't 2 years long

Just get on "the list."
Be sure that you're a viable client though. Meaning, you didn't just walk into a Rolex dealer and put your name on a list and walk out the door. You're more than likely not going to be getting a call, ever.

I've built a relationship with my AD over a 14 year period. I've purchased six new Rolex's from him (two Daytona's, one Sub (Hulk) and three Batman's - yes, three). Plus, I've purchased even more $ in jewelry for the wife and family.
To quote my AD "Why would I sell a Rolex to someone who just walks in off the street and I'll never see them again? I don't know if they're just going to flip it or who they even are. I would much rather sell to a client that I see and know and who supports me and my business."

^^ Ehh that's kind of why I don't really ever want a Rolex from an AD. I'd rather buy used. Or just get another comparable luxury watch, honestly. I don't want to play games and "prove" to the AD that I'm worth selling to. That's not how it should work. If I have the money, sell me a damn watch - it's not a museum piece. Rolex over the years have played the marketing game exceedingly well, and it's working out great for them. Prices on the watches both old and new have skyrocketed with the increased demand, and people literally line up for them. Then regardless, half the watches are put in vaults and only see the light of day on rare occasion, owners too scared to put a scratch or dent into the case and posting dumb threads on /r/rolex wondering if the watch is safe to shower with lol! Same reason I don't play games with car dealerships for the "privilege" of buying from them. Though I 100% understand the other side of the argument, about exclusivity etc, I just don't agree with it

Whats the easiest way to post pics?? I've resisted for days now but I just can't help myself...

Don't get me wrong, my two don't compare to a lot of these but they're still pretty cool, esp my Chopard.

That’s the problem. I have no history with anyone. I only have one watch and it’s not a Rolex. Buying used isn’t an option. I’m not spending $5-10K over new MSRP. I don’t want it that badly.

For most people, it's not worth it. I did this by chance, not to get into a position that I'm in now. Of course I had no idea the market was going to be like this years ago. If I did...
You also have to remember, unlike car dealers, Rolex AD's are not allowed to mark-up a watch beyond MSRP. They'll lose their distribution rights if they do. So, they aren't making a ton of money on watches because demand is so high globally and only so many going around. My AD makes most of their money by selling other items like jewelry or taking in second hand watches and reselling.

It's unfortunate that it's gotten to this point. Right now, this is basically the only way you're going to get a watch. The last generation Sub (114060 and 116610) are probably the "best buy" ATM with the smallest mark-up compared to other Rolex Sport Models (Sub, GMT, Yachtmaster, Daytona).

See my post above. Like I've said, I know him for 12 years and know his family. I've spoken at length about the entire situation with the owner of the AD. He feels the same way. Doesn't make it any easier for those that don't have a relationship.
In early 2018 I asked for a black dial Daytona. In two months I had it.
About a month ago, I asked for a new Pepsi GMT. I'll see how long this takes. I'm thinking closer to 1 year.

The market for Rolex sport models is looney toons right now (and for the past couple of years). Hard pass.

I hear Rolex is creating artificial scarcity as of late. Say what you will about the brand and where they stand on the "Tier List," I don't like brands that pursue a De Beers strat.

Rolex Finally Comments On The Product Shortage – And Conspiracy Theories Need Not Apply
"The scarcity of our products is not a strategy on our part. Our current production cannot meet the existing demand in an exhaustive way, at least not without reducing the quality of our watches – something we refuse to do as the quality of our products must never be compromised. This level of excellence requires time, and as we have always done, we will continue to take the necessary time to ensure that all our watches not only comply with our standards of excellence, but also meet the expectations of our customers in terms of quality, reliability and robustness. Rolex does not compromise on what it takes to produce exceptional watches.

All Rolex watches are developed and produced in-house at our four sites in Switzerland. They are assembled by hand, with extreme care, to meet the brand's unique and high-quality standards of quality, performance and aesthetics. Understandably, this naturally restricts our production capacities – which we continue to increase as much as possible and always according to our quality criteria.

Finally, it should be noted that Rolex watches are available exclusively from official retailers, who independently manage the allocation of watches to customers."

I dont think anyone's bashing the actual watches (and if they are, they're wrong - rolex makes amazing watches), but just like how we can love bmws but be frustrated by the dealers, we can also disagree with how ADs work. That being said, this is 100% a slippery slope to full on bashing, and I agree with you we should get back on track

Sooo to continue the thread - I've been wearing my Spacematic a lot lately because its just so dang COOL

You will never get a call from a Rolex AD unless you spend money with them. I put my name on the list for a Rolex Sub when I purchased a Tudor BB GMT. As soon as I went back a few months later and bought an Omega Seamaster 300M I received a call a week later to come buy the Sub.

I'm also on the list for a Turquoise OP which I doubt I will get now that the price has gone up 400% in secondary markets. The Sub is already worth 70% more than I paid for it in less than a year.

Debatable. Rolex could be telling the truth. Rolex could also be lying and their statement is just PR/Spin. If you browse watch forums, there is still plenty of speculation that Rolex is just leveraging the events of the last couple years to make some extra profit, and to also try and move the brand upmarket from mid-tier luxury to high-tier luxury. It's not a bad business move. I'm not in the market for a Rolex, so this, thankfully, is not affecting me.

Maybe not in the same league as some of the watches on display here… but may I present my Longines HydroConquest. The blue really pops in the sunlight.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean… when I retire.

A 1994 Tissot. Not a glitzy watch but a really, really good watch. I have not been kind to it but it outlasts any other watch I've had. It's slim and light. I can't leave the house without it.
