April 21 build now changed to LCI
So I ordered an M40d in April of this year with an M Sport Pro Pack, Cerium grey grill, mirror caps etc. & heated rear seats amongst other options.
I went with the 40d as apposed to a 20d as I wanted adaptive cruise control and this wasn’t an available option on the 20d due to parts shortages. I’ve taken a phone call from the dealers this afternoon. They’ve been waiting for a build slot and my build has now been changed to an LCI. I don’t really like the look of the LCI bumpers, front or rear. They now look to me very ‘Honda Civic’ with the sharper angles and silly fake plastic vents at the rear. It’s just makes the rear look to busy with too many shapes and angles. There are also no fog lights anymore at the front. Also M seats I am told are no longer part of the M Sport Pro Pack and are now an £890 option!! Heated rear seats are also not available anymore. I’ve already put down a £1000 deposit for the ‘old’ build. I’ve told the dealer I’m not that impressed and I don’t like the look of the LCI. He says he’s going to speak with the manager on Monday and see what figures they can work out. I’m assuming he means for the extra £890 for the M seats. I’ve said I’m now going to look at an Audi SQ5 to put some pressure on them but in reality the Audi is more expensive and doesn’t have the spec I want. Not sure weather to ask for my deposit back and walk away. |

I would argue that the point of building a car (as opposed to buying off the lot) is to get the things that you actually want. Are the M seats and rear seat heaters things you really want or were they just convenient to add since you were already building? If it's the former, and you really don't like the new styling, walk away and get something you really want.
Personally, I wouldn't want to spend what these cars cost to end up with something less than I want. |

Nice one - that SHOULD hit the spot. Keep us posted? When it comes to re-sell you won't regret the LCI? Better residuals compared with non? |

Been messing around with the configurator on the BMW website this weekend. I love the new colour available, Brooklyn Grey Metallic. The LCI also comes with proper M style wing mirrors now. Brooklyn grey goes well with the black grill, which is now the only colour option for the grill on the M40’s. I’ve been looking a lot at the new styling and it is growing on me. I prefer the new front to the back though. Very angular on the top edges of the bumper under the tail lights, a bit Audi Q2? Interior wise the LCI has a nicer looking central vent area, looks like the digital display for cabin temps has moved up from lower down to between the center vents. Not sure about a new style steering wheel. The options shows a different style wheel to select heated steering wheel to the wheel shown in the interior 360* pictures, so not sure of the style of wheel in the LCI. Been thinking, I’ve paid £1000 deposit almost two months ago now for my build to start. The fact that BMW never gave me a build slot and now that my pre LCI build will be an LCI, it’s not really my fault that M front seats are no longer part of the M Sport Pro pack. That’s really a problem for the dealer and BMW to work out cost wise. The dealer shouldn’t really be expecting me to now pay an extra £890 for seats that were in the pack I selected almost two months ago. I’ll suggest that when the sales guy call me tomorrow. And I think I’ll be doing the carbon trim on a new build…….if it gets that far! Last edited by Shaun170; 06-13-2021 at 04:08 PM.. Reason: Mistake |

Hi Shaun170
So price changes with new configuration I guess. On the other hand, here in Spain, only available diesel option is 20d for the moment. Did they confirm you that you will keep M40d engine? |

Yes still M40d as 20d no longer has adaptive cruise control as an option. So for this spec must still be a 40d.

Brooklyn Grey Metallic looks great.
The exterior looks good to me. And the new interior is also decent. Get them to chuck in the m-sport seats and take it... Did you manage to get a decent discount on a new one? |

Oh, and make sure you study the list intently to see what else the bar stewards have changed. With me it was rear glass tints - was free on previous model, missed it on this one due to it changing to a charged option and I didn't notice.

I’m almost at the point of asking for my deposit back. LCI is more expensive than my April build and for that I lose M seats and heated rear seats. Trouble is there’s nothing else out there that I really like. Sales guy is going back to BMW finance tomorrow to see what they can do on the costs. |

I went from a M40i to a 21 SQ5. Both great cars. Happy with the Audi.

Is it Tony? He works for Berry Croydon BMW. Not far from where I live. I went there to look at a used x20d. Didn’t see him. I have a 2018 Mini Cooper S that I want to trade. They offered a really poor price on it.

The M40d LCI is not happening for me sadly. Just can’t get the figures to work in my favour. The LCI is considerably more per month than the pre LCI I ordered back in April and it will not come with the M seats or heated rear seats in the increased costs. BMW have increased the monthly price but reduced the residual cost (the final bubble payment) My take on it is they are thinking with lower monthly costs more people would buy and then give back / walk away in 4 years time when the finance is up and they’ll be flooded with used cars.
We are considering a 20d or i in Brooklyn metallic grey but that no longer comes with adaptive cruise control due to parts shortages and this was an option I really wanted. Or I’ll get my deposit back and look at something else completely. Pretty gutted as I was really looking forward to having a 40d |

Looking at the thread and google looks like Tony @ Berry
https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1684244 also suggest direct dealer like Park Lane? Any option worth exploring I guess? Best of luck! |

Private messaged Tony on messenger as it looks like all his deals are on line but he hasn’t replied. Other comments on his FB page saying he doesn’t reply. I need to see a car in Brooklyn Grey before I make a decision. My local dealer doesn’t have anything in stock though. |

Sorry to hear they've been so bad with you - I had the opposite. Been waiting since Jan for a 30e with a Sept estimated delivery. Asked to swap to the LCI to make up for an abysmal experience and outrageous wait times - hard no.

Got my deposit back on the pre LCI M40d today. Gutted that it didn’t work out, will now wait to see if they reinstate Driving Assistant Pro on the 20i/d but I don’t hold out much hope.
