Dash Cam advice surveillance when parked

Looking for advice on using a dashcam to keep recording after the X3 is parked.

I appreciate some have "park mode" which, if I understand correctly, camera is off and only starts recording when an impact is detected. No idea if this is sensitive enough to trigger if someone keys the car for example.

I understand this may involve additional batteries, or compromise in terms of stopping once the car battery drops to a certain voltage.

Anyone got experience of doing this or advice on options?

I have the Blackvue DR900X on order with a Cellink battery. Don't own it yet but I plan on installing it day one. I needed something in addition to the drive recorder.

It can do continuous time lapse recording in park mode and then change to regular video if it detects something. Adding a battery will provide around 20+/- hours of recording without using your vehicle's battery.

Both my Blackvue DR900s-2ch and DR-750s-2ch can record on impact or if it sees movement. My only complaint is that it doesn’t show anything on the sides of the vehicle being front and rear setups. They might catch a glimpse of the person as they walk past the car or if they are keying the hood or fender.

Holy Crap! Are bimmers that much of a target that you need 24/7 surveillance? Or are you forced to park in unsavory areas? Is owning a bimmer like putting a target on your vehicle? I've only had two vehicles accosted in 50 years. One was a stolen aftermarket cassette player, and the other was a kid throwing a rock. Seriously, is screwing up bimmers some kind of cultural pastime these days? Maybe I should buy a Ford! Just trying to understand why the need for security.

Never had any issues with people messing with my vehicles. Had two instances of parking lot hit and runs prior to me getting a dash cam with parking mode.

This. Parking garage hits and dings are a real problem here.

I didn't hear about the possibility of filming when you're not driving, but there should probably be something like this. Try checking with Vivint if something like this exists. I don't know for sure if they offer car cameras, but they have a wide range of security cameras, and maybe they can recommend you something. If you don't find the camera you need, try parking your car in places that have a security guard and where are security cameras.

Normal dash cams (when you get a front and rear set up) will only capture if something/someone crosses the motion sensor in front or back of X3. For your concern re someone keying your X3, typically they would approach and leave from the side and would not be recorded. You would need to have a 4 camera set up and significant external battery to drive them.
If you really want do this you might want to explore using freestanding battery based motion alarm sensors (like for home systems) to trigger something like a Go Pro.
