"Adaptive" suspension and Navigation

The manual says the following about adaptive suspension:

ADAPTIVE
Comfort-oriented driving mode, whose tuning is
automatically modified to the driving situation
and driving style.
If the navigation system is active, upcoming road
sections are considered.
The function may be restricted if the navigation
data is invalid...

Q: does that mean that you have to be actually navigating to a particular destination, or just have the navigation screen open?

Otherwise does that mean the adaptive suspension won't do anything? i.e. it doesn't actually react in real-time to what's happening under the wheels...

That's actually an interesting question - my assumption has always been that 'active' means a route is being followed, however thinking about it there is no reason why it couldn't determine bends in road etc.. based on current direction of travel. I think though the former is the case rather than the latter (reason being it wouldn't specifically mention 'active' - since it's always on in the background anyhow.

Actually now when I read that extract from the manual, it seems to imply that the adaptive suspension does react to driving 'situation' and 'style...and also pre-empts suspension stiffening depending on input from Nav system? Smarter than I thought..

Yeah - that's another topic I believe it does that also, aside from the Nav input. So if you toast it round a corner it's supposed to adapt quickly and stiffen up accordingly.

To be fair I love driving in Sport - I like it HARD ALL THE TIME.

Now, where have I heard that before :-|
