I couldn’t drive anything with a ‘mouth’ that big, it looks like it should be use for trawling fish.

I traded in a Genesis r-spec 5.0 for our X3. Never had any problems with the engine or transmission in owning it for 7 years. It was a very solid car. The GV70 looks sweet IMO. Porsche wishes they had their taillights! I just don't care for the giant grill. Also I see they have tunes out for the stinger which is essentially the same engine I believe. If you think you need more power that might be an option down the road.

I saw one the other day for the first time and couldn't identify it from afar. I was so intrigued I chased after it just to see what it was. At the very least, it certainly looks unique.

Same with the GV80, caught up to it and was very impressed. Only thing I didn't like was the tail lights.

I wish they had their own dealerships. I'm sure it will come in time.

That's the problem with Genesis right now. The design language is a mash-up of other brands so some things don't flow. But their interior is light years ahead of BMW. It will be interesting to see the brand's evolution.

That interior already looks out dated and disconnected. I wouldn’t say it’s light years ahead of anything!

As someone cross shopping these 2 vehicles I couldn't disagree with this statement more. The GV70 interior is fresh, unique and modern (pretty much every automotive journalist agrees), and the materials are top notch. While the LCI helps a bit on the X3, it's still reminiscent of my 2015 F82...unfortunately BMW is the one that needs to play catch up. And I'm a huge BMW fan...

Modern design that is overdone just to just look futuristic does not replace form and function. The dash looks like a take on Fords oval design language reborn! That oval dash is just bad with the skinny Audi vents across it’s length. Not a fan of dial a drive either! I get it’s different, but it’s over designed, just to look different. It’s Polarized looks wear off quickly the more you stare. It does however have some cool tech like the finger print reader to start it, unless you wear gloves lol.

From Car and Driver:

“As much as we enjoyed the interior design and materials, the eternal battle between form and function has not reached a peace. The curve of the door panel intersects awkwardly with the armrest, leaving your elbow unhappy. And while the aforementioned shift knob is a tactile delight, it sits just ahead of the identically sized infotainment control wheel. More than once we conflated the two dials, accidentally switching radio stations instead of shifting into Drive. Rear-seat space is a little tight in legroom, but the cargo area is slightly larger than some competitors.”

OP, you can't go wrong with either car, they're both great. I personally prefer the Genesis from a design and standout/"unique-ness" standpoint both inside and out but have yet to drive one. The X3 will likely be more engaging but less luxurious, while the GV70 will feel much more modern, but I'm sure the GV70 is also impressive enough in the handling department for an SUV. Have the wife try em out and see which one she prefers.

Thanks for the feedback...good news is we live in a time where there are multiple credible choices. Can't really go wrong with a Macan S, GLC 43, X3 M40i, and now Genesis has joined the party. Glad they are pushing the envelope to keep the Old Guard on their toes. That's good for everyone...

BMW definitely never makes mistakes with grills these days. Lol. That said, although I haven't seen it in person yet, I have no issue with the LCI X3 grill.

How do you like your Alfa, Have you looked at the Stelvio?

It’s an interesting look but feels like design language still being developed at Genesis. Next gen may look completely different.

How was the AMG?

The Giulia QV is a terrific vehicle. As stated, I've had M cars in the past (which I've also loved), but there's just something really special about the chassis and the powertrain in the QV that makes it feel more alive than modern day M cars without being jumpy or skittish.

The interior/tech are definitely behind BMW, but the driving experience makes up for it in spades in my opinion. And, knock on wood, I've had mine for almost 4 years and it's been completely trouble free. I may be in the minority there.

As far as the Stelvio goes, I would consider a QV but, since this car will be my wife's DD, that's a bit of overkill. The sweet spot for her is X3 M40i, GLC 43, etc. The Stelvio QV is definitely a bad ass machine though for sure.

I've been very impressed with the GLC43. We've had it about 4 years and have 65k miles on it and it's a really good mix of sport and luxury which is perfect for my wife. Even though the platform will be replaced in a year, I think the interior is still nicer than the LCI X3 in terms of materials, design language, and fit and finish (stuck on iPad aside). I also think the stance of the thing is nice and aggressive and more hunkered down than the X3.

If the next Gen GLC was out, we'd definitely consider it. Although, I am a bit weary of the all 4 cylinder engine line-up even for the AMG models... So we'll have to see about that.

Pros for Genesis:
When you buy Genesis, each model will look totally different than the previous generation. The designer must work very hard to rebuild every single piece of their models. So that you can always get ALL the popular elements from different luxury brands and stay on top of fashion.

Continuing through the process of making a decision and had a chance to drive both the X3 M40i and GV70 3.5 SP again in the last couple days.

The Genesis still stood out to me as looking/feeling more special inside and out. Maybe it's just that it's so different from what I'm used to, but I really do think they did a great job.

However, this time driving them back to back, the superior driving dynamics of the X3 seemed more pronounced than I recalled initially. Ultimately, it will be my wife's decision since it will be her DD, but I think my mind is made up on which I'd choose. Driving dynamics > superficial stuff 99% of the time.

And I'm hopeful that the LCI version of the interior gives it a bit more of an upscale look in person with the bigger screen and rearranged center console. Interested to see it in real life.

Has she driven both of them yet? Would she choose driving dynamics or a softer ride?
