Great write up!

Is anyone running winter tires on the 21' wheels?

I am running Scorpions on stock 21's too. Great performance and grip! There is some initial roll when you slam it into a turn but it holds.

Mind sharing tire sizes?? Did you go with 265/40 all around?

No, went with the staggered stock set up. Front - 255 and rears - 265. Though we get some good snow in upstate NY, I could have easily went with 265 front and 295 rear. I know that doesn't follow main stream winter driving sets ups but I ran rear 315 all season on my X5 in many winters with zero handling issues.

Another member posted an article about narrow not always being better depending what the type of snow/condition (referenced the width of snow shoes).

Interesting read.

Itís possible that narrow would have been slightly better depending on conditions but the type (winter vs summer vs all season) and tread make more of a difference.

I didnít want to use the OEM wheels as 1) Iíve had less than good luck with shops scratching my wheels and 2) I can do it in my driveway.

I went with the 20Ē because it was what BMW recommended and was cheaper.

I was going to go with 255s all around but after placing the order the Discount Tire guy called me back and said that they couldnít put 255s on the rear for a weight reason. Seems like if they were safe for the front from a weight perspective then theyíd also be safe for the rear? I ended up taking his advice and doing 255s up front and 265s rear.

I wonder if the 255 one they had were not the correct load rating?

I seem to recall the scorpions came in different load ratings and we need the higher one.

Thatís probably a good guess. I just bought them a few weeks ago and it seems like halfway through the winter there arenít many left in the US (had to have them shipped to MI from Utah and SC). Maybe they couldnít find the higher rated 255s.

Good point about the elevated tire pressure. I tried running them lower in Italy at high speeds, and they were sloppy starting at 120 mph plus. Brought the pressure up, and they stabilized quite well without sacrificing too much comfort around town.

I thought about your post when I bumped up the PSI

What are you running them at? And you have a square setup?

For reference Iím at 42 PSI and happy with it. No speeds greater than 80 yet

I'm not square but factory sizes. I have added 15mm spacers since delivery, but that didn't affect stability. It was the psi that was killing me at high speeds (above 120 mph) . I've been without my F97 for a couple of months now as it traversed the Atlantic. I've never experienced it with summers as one factory tire was damaged during factory transport, and I took delivery with the scorpions in the fall. I hope to drag it with the scorpions on the Texas motor speedway west of Dallas next month. If not, cecil dragway in Maryland will follow a couple of months later with the factory Michelens. That is until they break my balls due to a lack of roll cage..... As a certified track, I hear they're quite the stickler for the rules..... Even for amateurs as myself. And this particular F97 is no slouch.
