AdBlue in F25 35d
I was surprised to find no adblue tank when I picked up my car yesterday, any one know why it is not needed in Europe?

http://www.carbuyer.co.uk/tips-and-a...what-is-adblue http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-tec...what-is-adblue I am only guessing, but the F25 was given type approval before the legal requirement came into force. More below where other manufacturers use a different approach using other technology. A good read is the paragraph called "What are the alternatives" in the following link... http://www.clm.co.uk/blog/euro6-emissions-ad-blue/

Thanks Peter_R.
It's brand new (built Sep 2016) so it is an EU 6 compliant engine. I guess it must use a Lean NOx trap as mentioned in the clm article you pointed me to. The owner's manual discusses AdBlue and has a picture of an AdBlue filler next to the fuel cap. Maybe this is for the X3 20d? Mine certainly does not have an AdBlue filler next to the fuel cap.

It does not follow that if a diesel engine is EU 6 compliant it has to have ADblue or a Lean NOx trap to conform. I have read somewhere (I cannot it find at the moment) that they are able to do it with ECU mapping or similar fuel management.

Thanks Peter_R and Nham68. Definitely no AdBlue filler in the engine bay either. It is definitely Euro 6. I am happy that it does not have AdBlue - just curious as to how the emissions standard is met.

Apparently the Mazda CX5 doesn't need urea injection to meet EU6 but I had thought they were the only mfg to achieve this - at least when I looked into this. The Mazda was however found to have very poor NOx in real-world testing.

My boss has a 2015 3.0d x5 that requires adblue (filler is in the same flap as the fuel filler) my 2015 3.0d x3 doesn't have it.
I always assumed the reason was due to the size of the car and the relative impact on emissions g/km etc. |
