Congrats! You have a very nice parking spot there... In NE? No snow on the ground yet?
Enjoy the ride. The X3 should be far more practical in your area. |

Congrats! I’m curious to hear your impressions in comparison to the M2... yes we all know they’re 2 totally different vehicles. My question is specific to the power... do you feel like you’ve given up that much of day to day, say under 5K rpm... or maybe like 10% that you feel by the seat of the pants?

M4 to X3 M40i
I went from a Dinan tuned M4 that I had for three years to an X3 and have been pleasantly surprised. My previous car before M4 was a 620 RWHP blown and cammed 2003 Z06 so I'm familiar with relatively capable performance cars. Mickey Thompson's and other chassis upgrades still didn't allow me to put down the power so a lot of time was spent either feathering my launch or doing great burnouts.
Therefore, it is great fun to be able to use the 355 HP to full advantage with all wheel drive. Similarly, when inclement weather hit my location I was able to go anywhere just about any time I wanted. People don't ohh and ahh over my X3 as they did when I popped the hood on all the carbon fiber on the M4 or blower, headers etc. on the Z06 but I am personally having a lot more fun on a day to day basis. |

No snow at the moment (or yesterday). I'm hoping it stays clear until after the holidays.

Have to share my first day impressions. To put this into perspective, I have owned over 100 vehicles in my lifetime. Probably more. From vintage big block Vett's, early Z/28 Camaro's, 2 Porsches and E46 M3. The M3 was, in my opinion, the most cleanly engineered vehicle I had owned.
Also working for a Legend, Carroll Shelby, in Las Vegas for 5 + years and having all the horsepower anyone could ever need, this vehicle has just blew me away. Just fabulous, and I found the more I drove, the more I wanted to drive! The M2 is a terrific package but the M40i is vehicle that has me smitten with "M". What with the X3 M package going to be like! The future is bright. |

Not sure if you have plan for winter tires... Having lived in CT myself for several years (east of New Haven along the coast), you might want to take it easy initially when snow comes to get a feel on how those 21" summer tires behave. I'm in the Midwest now where snow is not nearly as much as an issue vs NE, I'm still driving on a set of 20" summer tires and no problem for me so far. |

Yeah, I'm keeping an eye out on the weather too, as I'm still on the 20" rims/summer tires. I've read that ECO PRO helps in the snow, but I'll need to do some experimenting away from some of the functionally challenged drivers in the region.

Delivery at the Performance Center
I took delivery back in March and having been through their courses several times including the advanced at VIR, I was allowed to push their X3 M40i surrogate pretty hard around their mini track set up. It was great fun and other than quite a bit of body role through the esses it was surprisingly nimble. Similarly, it was an experience to take said X3 through the sill deep water and inclines of the off road course.
You can't go wrong with performance center delivery on and X3 |
