Engine Oil Change
I am in a process of getting service done for my 2016 BMW X3 xdrive 20d F25.
I need advice on which Engine oil to use and how many liters of oil do I need. BTW I am in UK |

It should be stated in the owner's manual what weight to use.
BMW has a spec "LL-01" that they want you to adhere to as well. However many of use oil that used to but no longer carries this spec, i.e. Castrol, assuming that it was a paperwork or political issue and not an oil issue. |

Since yours is a diesel, BMW requires an oil with an LL-04 standard (vice LL-01 for gas engines). As I recall, your X3 will require approximately 5 liters of oil with a filter change. In the US, Pennzoil offers a 5w-30 LL-04 oil at a very reasonable price. Since Pennzoil is a Shell company, the brand
recommended by BMW, you'll probably find a Shell branded oil with LL-04 spec. |

I found BMW TWINPOWER TURBO ENGINE OIL LL-04 5W-30 listed online but it is not available on BMW's official store or even at their eBay/Amazon page. So I have taken your advise and decided to go for Shell Helix Ultra ECT C3 5W-30 It's currently £42 for 5Ltr 😀 so it saves me like £25 |
