Windshield vent

My M40 arrived today, so I swung by the dealer to check it out. I won’t actually get it until later in the week. One thing I noticed and pointed out to the dealer is the windshield vent was popped up on the passenger side. This is the defroster vent that runs along the inside base of the windshield. I now wish I took a picture of this. They are going to fix it, but does anyone know how this is attached? I’m hoping they don’t have to remove the dash to fix it.

Go to www.newtis.info for all technical sheets how parts are removed and installed. It will tell you what is involved

Without photos it's hard to understand what you're talking about. If the dash has to come out though to fix it then so be it

I can’t find anything in there for the windshield vent, only the lower vents.

As indicated, unfortunately, I did not take a photo but it’s just the vent at the very front of the dash, where it meets the windshield. The right hand side is popped up approximately 1/4” above the dash.

Dealer tech will probably reach in there with the end of a broomstick and pop it back into place.

F**K ME. ON a new car? I'd be seriously considering tell them to take it back. I don't trust anyone to take all that shit apart and not have it start creaking. Hate to be doom and gloom, and shit does happen (usually to me, so it's comforting to share ;-) but they should give much recompense for that fubar.

Believe me, I considered it! BMW wanted them to replace the dash. I told them if the dash comes out, they can keep it. The dealer thought they could fix it by removing the windshield. I pick it up Saturday, so we’ll see.

Sorry man! I assume the Canadian cars come out of Spartanburg like ours do? Your frustration seems quite reasonable to me and if you were to reject the car and wait another month or two for a freshie that too would be reasonable. Don't forget to shoot pix for us when you go look at their handiwork.

Yeah, it did come from Spartanburg. Getting some interesting stories on how something like this gets by QA/QC and yet it’s the first thing I noticed when I hopped in for the very first time.

I bought a X4 recently from BMW UK, I was a little suspicious of 20K off the list price with only 150 miles on the clock (not registered). I bet someone refused delivery for an "issue" and now I own that car. Good news all seems OK, so life goes on.

Is that repair logged into the cars history?

No idea how that is logged. It’s done under warranty, so I suspect it is recorded somewhere.

While not desirable. I don't think this is a big deal. No one will ever know. Your dash will not squeak. New glass? It will be BMW glass. I think your dealer handled it correctly. Do you really want to wait again? No one will ever notice.

I had issue with my 2018.. HVAC howl They took my dash completely apart like 6 times - 3 times replacing heater box.. other times trying to replace seals and what not. Tech sent me this video:

I really cannot talk about resolution. I will say BMW took care of me and I am big time BMW fan now.

Yeah, I approved that method of fixing it, otherwise, I was not taking the vehicle. They removed the glass without breaking it, so all good that way.
