Vibration in reverse

Anyone else get a strong vibration in reverse a decent amount of the time? It seems like the RPMs are sitting in a weird place that causes me to get a vibration and that is both heard and easily felt throughout the car. Doesn't really bother me, but I just wanted to make sure its normal.

Ok I paid very close attention to this as I backed out of my driveway this morning. My driveway is slightly sloped and I did not feel any vibrations aside from the slight rumble from the exhaust.
Watched the rpms and there was no unusual flutter

Then I cursed as my seatbelt tensioner choked me as I drove away

Thanks for checking. My RPMS still close to 900rpm in reverse I believe.

I was hoping an overwhelming amount of you would also have this issue. Here we go again with a new episode of "things that will keep my car in for service that the dealership will never fix".

Other than making a sadist at BMW happy, I fail to see the point of this feature.

Any way to disable it?

I think it's just getting a feel for where you are, one day you might be very glad it did. (hopefully not of course)

My seating position is different when reversing then when actually driving.

Surely they thought about this at BWM? And what was wrong with the old method that worked on a tension spring?

Is anyone safer because of this feature?

No I don't think BMW know that you adjust your seat to reverse, I've never heard of anyone doing such a thing and I suspect I'm with them on that.

The system is setting itself up so it can best protect you in the event of a crash, it's a gentle pull from the belts nothing more.

No not the seat, but my body is twisted looking behind me and therefore not sitting flat against the back.

Perhaps everyone is just using the cameras?

The tensioners should not adjust until you put it in drive and begin to move. Mine have never engaged while backing out of my driveway or parking spot

That's good to know. I don't have my XM3 yet so was assuming it did it anytime you engaged a gear irrespective of direction.

I really felt it on a MB test drive where I was adjusting the mirror and reaching over and apparently had it in drive (foot on brake).
