This really sounds like a RTFM situation. BMW also has decent videos on the YouTubes. Also additional youtube additions from enthusiasts.

Thanks for your response. Did view video, and attempted to join Apple CarPlay. After several attempts, I called the Genius who informed me that the 2020 X3 does not have CarPlay software installed yet, because BMW has made it a free feature, whereas up until now only included for a year. Stated it should be available at end of January and will automatically appear on menu under communications/telephone.

I just bought a 2020 on Monday. CarPlay worked as soon as my salesperson setup my ConnectedDrive account (which took 24 hours from purchase). ConnectedDrive website shows my CarPlay subscription is valid through January, 2040.

Don't get fooled by lazy Genius.

Carplay works instantly if you have the feature and if you have set up the Connected services.

The question is, if you ordered the correct options to have carplay.

Although it's free now for live instead of a subscription, you need to have ordered it in the first place. Otherwise there is no Carplay from factory and you need to buy it from the connected drive store afterwards.

I got my 2020 X3 (fully packed with every feature) on 3rd of January and Carplay worked from day one.

Ok, seems to depend on the market. In Germany you need to slect at least the connected package Plus including Live Cockpit Plus. for 1350,- extra. Otherwise there is no Carplay.

Have X3M 4.0 with Live CockpitPro so I believe I should have had CarPlay and it's definitely not there, so I guess they missed me in the install. I'll see if they put it in by the end of the month before throwing a fit. Not that big a deal right now because BMW's software is pretty good except I miss my Spotify. The iPhone integrates well for calls, so I'm assuming a temporary glitch. Thanks for feedback

Ah ok this makes sense. I think Connected Package Plus is standard in USA as of 2020 model year, but not for 2018/19

Any idea if Carplay is also enabled in 2020 EU versions ?
Picking my X3 in next week and going on long trip week later so ti'd be good to have it enabled.

Like i said it depends on the market und your selected options. Mine has it, but i have nearly all options available.

Enter your VIN to mdecode.com an look for anything related to CarPlay. If it's there, you either have it or you can order it.

Carplay is not listed separately in all markets when it's part of one of the Connected Packages.

OP, you have CarPlay but probably missed it while pairing your phone and car. If you did not set it up while pairing your phone, CarPlay won't show up anywhere in iDrive.

You should delete your phone from the list of iDrive's paired devices, and delete your BMW from your iPhone's list of Bluetooth connections. Next, make sure CarPlay is turned on on your iPhone and re-pair it to the car. Toward the end of the pairing process, it will ask whether you want to use CarPlay. Go from there. Good luck.
