Performance Delivery Center

Hey

I put in an order for a custom build. The dealership has only completed one PCD delivery in Munich and none from Spartanburg. I keep waiting for a production number, but they keep telling me that they've submitted the paperwork to Spartanburg and waiting on a delivery date prior to giving me a production number. Is this true for those with experience? This is my first custom order and PCD experience. I'm wondering if these people just don't know what they're doing since it's their first time. The only thing that's not making me walk away is the deal they gave me.

PCD (Spartanburg delivery) and ED (European Delivery in Munich) aren't particularly uncommon so you're probably dealing with a small dealership, and smaller dealerships get fewer allocations. So they're probably waiting for an allocation. Once they get an allocation, they get a production number and a delivery date. One doesn't come before the other. With that said, X3/4 allocations aren't hard to come by. It should only be a few days or a week at the longest.

From what I recall when I did mine, getting that PCD slot when I could do it was a pain-ola. However, it was well worth it.

I got my production number and requested PCD slot four days after placing my order. Maybe I was lucky, but getting a production slot has nothing to due with a PCD date. The OP is still waiting for his production slot.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I knew more about PCD than my sales guy.

He told me over the phone that they have an allocation. Sounds like they probably don't have one. I started the process on 12/26 and put down a deposit on 12/28. I don't mind the long wait as I'm in no rush. I just wish they would be more upfront about it. I'm calling the sales manager tomorrow. I think I've been patient enough. I'll update when I get an answer.

OP, one more bit of nuance for you . . . Orders that are placed as "sold" rather than "for stock" get priority for allocations. Frankly, I think most of us have had our custom-ordered X3/4s built within four to six weeks (max) of ordering. I wonder whether your dealer recorded yours as a sold order??

Just an additional data point for you:

Ordered M40i on 12/12/19, production number (i.e. allocation) available, marked as Priority 1, and flipped to status 112 immediately. Advisor submitted PCD paperwork same day and I got the PCD date from BMW the following Monday, 12/16 (~2-3 business days).

Car has completed production and is waiting for my 1/31 delivery.

So it's sitting around collecting nicks and dings for over 2 weeks?

Hey now!

I was told they'd at least top off the fuel for me after using it as an on-track demonstrator for a few weeks.

Update: Got my production number! The dealership had an official BMW rep come because they had no idea what they were doing. They walked them through the process and sending me weather mats for the front, rear, and trunk since I was so patient.

Here's my build:

X3 M40i
19" Rims (want the better ride)
Dark Graphite Metallic
Cognac Leather
Dark Oak Trim
Executive Package
Driving Assistance Package
Acoustic Glass
Harmon Kardon
Trailer Hitch
Front and Rear Heated Seats

Nice build; great color combo! I've taken re-delivery of an ED M5 at the PCD, and delivery of a 650 vert there - you'll have a great time

Did you order All Season or Performance Run-flat 19" tires? If you order the N/C Performance tires you automatically get the top speed limiter delete at N/C

Congrats OP! PCD (or ED for that matter) doesn't need to be so difficult, but even so, the experience is worthwhile. You'll have a blast.

I did the same thing when I got mine. was epic. if possible, when they take you out for the hotlap demonstration in the M3, get Tommy for a driver if possible. He's the BMW drift driver, was so much more fun winging it around than with the other guys going for strait speed.

Thanks for that advice. I will definitely use it if given the chance.

Update:

Production Begins/VIN: 1/22
Estimated completion date: 2/6

BMW called to discuss PCD date: 1/23

PCD Confirmation Email: 1/24

Tentative Delivery Date: 2/27

I'll write a final update with all the dates for those interested in how long the process took for me.
