Buying used X3--suggestions or things to look for?

I'm looking for a used X3 (2018+) and wondering what experiences people have and any suggestions on things to look out for. Were any specific bugs fixed from 2018 to 2019? Any service issues that were common? Probably going to go with a used 2018-2019 rather than 2020 even though it's idrive 6.0, as long as it has carplay (which I'm assuming all the upgraded navigation units have).

I have a 2019 G20 3 series, so somewhat familiar with the platform. Thanks in advance!

If you looks at the customer satisfaction reviews and ‘average faults’ 2018 wasn’t a good year but 2019 improved significantly, also things like the doors apparently sound flimsy when closing and lots of electronic bugs in the infotainment. I’d go 2019.

Thanks for the post, OP. I am also in the market for a 2018+. I need an m40i with tow package and those are hard to find.

So... really, 2019 is that much better than 2018?? Hmm... I wonder if others will echo this sentiment.

I just got a 2020 and don’t understand what “flimsy doors” mean. I’ve owned many vehicles with aluminum doors though, so maybe I’m immune?

Right now I have a 2020 as a loaner and like it a lot. This car would be for my fiancé who loves the car but my understanding is the big change is live cockpit and ID7. If that’s all it is will look for a used 2019. Thanks for info on 2018 v 2019.

I prefer mechanical speedo/odo myself so opted for the connected package plus in the 2020. You’ll be fine without ID7/live cockpit!

2020 M40i's also have the B58 technical update engine.

Apart from the vibration issues in some of the early 2018 builds, I would say build quality and little random problems is the same for all models.

If your fiance is an Android person, Android Auto is coming later this year but only for ID7.

I have an 18 M40i that I bought used with 5k miles, I now have almost 14k miles and it's been almost problem free. It feels solid, smooth, actually very quiet except for the crackle and pops of the exhaust. I love the car! Even with the 21 inch rim/tires it still rides very nice.
