255's on stock 19" wheels

Has anyone put 255/50-19s on the stock 19" M40 wheels? Mine is coming with summer tires, and looking at all-season and all-weather options, there is a TON more choices in 255/50 vs 245/50 sizing.

Curious who (if anyone) has done it and their thoughts on the handling/feel of the extra width but with a little extra sidewall.

Thanks!

The 19s already felt pretty sloppy to me with 245's on a 7.5" wheel. I wouldn't personally want to go wider on those wheels.

I have Toyo Observe GSI-5 255/50s but:

1 - they're on my winter rims that are 8.5" wide rims (non-BMW)
2 - they're not run flats

Handles ok in the dry but not as nicely as the standard 21s the car came with. Can be a little soft when you accelerate hard from slower speeds but ok otherwise. No idea how your roads are but they're not great up here in general. I'm waiting for the snow to come in on Montreal before finding out how everything really behaves on this car.

I downsized from an X5 where my front winters were this size. I had to buy new tires one season ago and did ~300kms on them, I simply sourced another two to get a square set up on this new set. All four are produced within a month of each other so worked out really well. When I had them on my X5, the rears were 285/45, although staggered they handled great and I wanted to reuse.

Take a look at Nokian WR G4 SUV All-weather 235/55R19 on the stock 19's

BIG DIFFERENCE between All-Season and All-Weather !!

Good inputs, thanks all. Definitely appreciate the all weather vs all season difference. Ideally I would just get the stock size in an all weather and call it a day, but that 245/50 size just doesn't exist in the cool new all-weathers.

No perfect answer sadly.

I just ordered a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3s in 245/50 for my M40i this past week. After having a set of Hakkapeliitta R2s on my 335, I'll never order another brand of winter tires again. The Nokians are unstoppable in the snow, and preform pretty well on milder, dry winter days as well.

Amen brother! I have 4 cars and a pick-up, and every one rides on Nokians in winter.
