Sound comment, except for the fact that other manufacturers are now copying BMW's entries (MB with the new GLE Coupe, Audi with the forthcoming Q6). I think we can all agree that this trend is, for now, a German thing.

I happen to think this X4 is bad ass and a good value. Every Mecan I look at is 75k-80k and the base model is nothing special to drive. I have had X5's and they are to big, especially the new ones. I do not care that the thing says M or not and the same goes for M-cars. I don't care, it is just another BMW model. The same for the Shelby name. I am looking at the GT350 and I can care less about the Shelby name. I would like to remove all the Shelby name crap that is plastered all over the thing. In another few years a models lineage going back in time will be irrelevant.
Those of us that complain that BMW has lost their way and that they are watering the down the brand are living in the past. They are not making vehicles for us and we will be the ones who are irrelevant to BMW.

BMW is gonna sell a ton of these X4 M40i's. We can only hope it will pay the way for some more hard core (real!) ///M models.

Could be an interesting car but that name is just horrible. What a mouthful.
So is this going to be somewhere in between the X4 4.0 and the X4 M? I'm getting confused with all the M derivatives... |

I'm strictly going based off of base price and this X4M40 has the highest base price of all. "Similarly" equipped could be very subjective but you could get a hell of a macan with $62k and pretty loaded X5Msports for $68k. And I doubt you could get this X4M40 below $65k after equipping it "similarly".

Why is the X5 "the real deal"? It's your opinion that people who choose other SUVs really want an X5 but can't have them? There's literally no other reason you can think of for someone to choose another model?

#1 Maybe some one wants to sit higher and doesnt want a sedan. #2 Some may think that the x3 is a mom car and like the more aggressive styling of an x4 #3 The x4/x6 "Sh*t" makes some sort of sense apparently because Mercedes Audi and Acura have versions of the x6 and probably the x4 soon. #4 they both are 5 seaters #5 I can understand how you may be not in favor of the car and some may say that BMW is "lost" and what not but at the end of the day if you take anyone of BMW's cars and compare to a direct competitor of said car 9 times out of 10 I can promise that youll end up taking the BMW because they handle better drive better and look better and for those reasons everyone on this forum drives one or aspires to drive one. So with that being said you are entitled to your own opion but dont knock it just because it doesnt make sense for your specific lifestyle and, it wont be there best seller but it will sell and they will make money from it and in turn they can generate money for the one thing that BMW does best which is engineer and create the M cars that we all love. So you should't be a hater because lets be honest if your wife likes it and she wants it well then guess what your leaving the dealership with....and then youll be the a$$hole who hated and is now stuck driving it everyday with a car seat in the back. |

Because I find it irony that sub class model is now more expensive than the regular class models. They started X3/4 to offer a better priced alternative for X5/6. If this was a X4M, it would be a different story but it is not.

the only way i would consider this if it somehow performed better than the Macan Turbo....but honestly, that antiquated looking Navi makes this whole thing seem horrible.

Such an odd car... it's like half a "EXX" generation BMW and half a "FXX" generation BMW. More problematic, in this class, it's just a very unattractive car compared to the Macan. I can only see this car winning on price, otherwise the Macan has this thing beat inside out.

how is this a joke? this thing is badass and sticks it to Porsche. really getting sick of all the bitching when BMW steps out and makes something that doesn't conform to some outdated concept of what they should be. they have another option for a buyer who is looking elsewhere! don't like it don't freaking buy it. but to call it a joke is ridiculous. BMW has a vehicle for almost every need while giving that buyer the most complete vehicle in that segment. how does having this vehicle available affect your life in any negative way. it's thousands cheaper than a real world Macan that everyone (except porchephiles) thinks is great, yet it is a better overall vehicle

Actually the BMW business model is very much being copied by other manufacturers both domestic and international.
250,000 units of E71 X6 2008-2014. The X4 is selling exceptionally well, its replacement arrives in early 2018. The X2 arrives in 2017. The new X1 is already a hit since launching in October. Total X1 sales of the E84 topped over 750,000. So it won't be too long before the X1 joins the X3 and X5 in the million units category if sales continue to be strong. The new X3 brings in a new design language for the X models followed by the X7. The X7 will be the 7Series of the X models not simply just an extended X5, it will also be offered with the 7er V12. Discussions for an X8 are underway. The X family will also offer Li models for certain markets to carry seven passengers. The X2 will have a sister car in the MINI Countryman Coupe which will replace the PACEMAN. An additional model of the Countryman instead of a new model. BMW X models give a large majority of total unit sales and profitability. And this will be continued because of the SUV/Crossover being the worlds best selling segment for the entire industry.

Next generation is possible.
The X4 M40i is to test the waters for the next generation as the F26 will be replaced in early 2018.
