Front PDC sensor wire cut...dealer wants 1k to fix

How difficult is it to replace the wire myself? The dealership quoted me over 1k to replace the cable...here's an image of the damage to one of the front sensor wires:

Isn't there just a pigtail available to solder/heat shrink into the harness? I wouldn't pay them more than 50 bucks to fix that.

That was my first thought as well...maybe I should take it to an indy shop?

I can't seem to find any F25 pdc wiring harness or pigtails online.

While I have no direct experience with this particular connector, many connector shell halves are two piece that come apart. You'll need a small screwdriver to pry the shell apart and a wire piercing type continuity tester to push the contact out. I'd try and separate what appears to be the female side of the connector into it's separate parts and then remove the contact holding the damaged wire. If you can do that, making a good wire/contact connection is pretty easy. Once it's fixed, reinsert the repaired wire/contact, reassemble the shell half, and put a dab of silicone caulk on the contact where it enters the connector core to ensure it's weather proof. Good luck.

Pretty easy to fix. Once you separate the shell you need a pointed tool to pull out the pin. The pin is either soldered or crimped to the wire. You can find those crimping pins either on line or probably electronic shops. BMW has also a kit and ECS and other vendors carry them.

Unfortunately, dealers are not paid to improvise. They would rather replace the whole harness after removing the bumper than repair the connection. That's how they make $$$.

Here you go

Probably enough slack to trim the ends of the wires back a little and crimp on the new connector.

get a new plug or a salvage one is a crazy easy and cheap job.

Can't believe BMW would bill 1k for a non-critical sensor , how they get customers? They can quote something more realistic, like 200$, still make 300% profit and at least get the job...

Thank you...seems like the hardest part will be getting the bumper off.

Boom, good find. Super easy fix. Do the repair yourself and then send pics and the cost details to the SA at the stealership who gave you the quote.

BTW, they shouldn't have needed to replace the push pins if they didn't destroy them when they removed the bumper. They can be reused.

Did you happen to fix the problem? I have something similar but it has to do with the actual plug seems that it has corroded inside from moister. I bought another PDC sensor thinking that was the issue but sadly not, I may just buy another plug cut the existing wire and electric tape the new one.
