Bimmer code dongle

I want to get in to BimmerCode. I know I need a Bluetooth obd2 dongle, but some of these confuse me lol. Is there really a difference in all of these options? For example, I was looking at the Veepeak BLE, what’s “better” about the Veepeak BLE+??

I have experience using these, but didn’t know if there was an actual difference I need to know about for this.
Any recommendations for which to get?

I have tried other so called "compatible with" dongles but with patchy success.

I now use an OBDLINK CX with no problems.

Easy connect , never dropped out , never failed a write sequence.
https://www.obdlink.com/products/obd...ref=bimmercode
Used on multiple BMWs with the same success.

IMHO avoid bluetooth. Use cable. Bluetooth is probably fine and I'm being over cautious - but the one time if fails will most likely be for me so I de-risk the process.

I’ve had Bluetooth, WiFi, and the wired enet cable. Please go wired… it’s soooo much faster (which also reduces the risk of errors).

I have used all different methods connecting to my x3 and the best one that I had no issues with across all of the apps has been using the new gen wifi adapter from BM3.

From XHP, bimmercode, protools, bimmerlink and BM3 itself. Instant connection and faster uploads than wired tbh, sometimes the enet to usb c adaptor to obd will move when handling my phone and lose connection.

Top it all off no more dealing with a shit ton of wires in my lap. I can leave the adaptor in the OBD port and it won't set off the alarm.

A million percent this! The speed difference is massive plus you're getting the connection security of a physical cable. The only trick I had to figure out was you have to fully shut off Wi-Fi/cellular on the connected device for it to do it's connection thing. Otherwise it tries to make it an ethernet device and doesn't connect to the car.

when you are asking what's better about the veepeak ble+ are you comparing it to just other bluetooth dongles?

avoid any bluetooth dongles even the veepeak ble+ they are extremely slow and have a very high likelihood of a connection issue. that could case a programming failure and damage a ecu.

enet wifi is good but connection issues can happen because you will need your wifi turned on and that could cause issues with coding. since it possible for your device to disconnect from your wifi dongle to look for the internet connection.

wired connection is the best and fastest connection

as always save your original back up..if something goes horribly wrong it you may need it.

I’ve probably said this already, I’ve used BimmerCode and BimmerLink with my OBD MX + and it works. Then I got the cable and adapter for my phone. It’s day and night , the cable is so fast . I would also use a battery charger while doing it if your car battery is older especially if using the OBD adapter. Get the cable set up , you won’t regret it.
