My 40d is coming from South Africa. Allegedly due round about the 22nd March.
That's odd I thought all M40 were from Spartanburg. When did you order?
Apparently it's only ones with individual options that are built in Spartanburg, although JustChris's seems to be an exception to that rule!
What do they classify as individual options didn't think I had any?

Your M40d is likely to be on the same boat as mine from South Africa. If it is it's on the Glovis Sky currently docked in Dakar!

Hope the backlog disappears quickly!

My car was originally due for pick up round about the 4th March but have been told to expect it nearer the 22nd. Doesn't help me a great deal as I am vt ing my current car and need to give them 2-3 weeks notice but have been promised a loaner if the dates don't work out.
How can a couple of months seem so long when you are waiting on something

Couldn't agree more especially as I ordered end of October. Good luck with VTing. Luckily mine is part ex so another few weeks doesn't make any difference.

If it's the same as me and you're doing it through BMWFS; they hold all payments at the point that you say you're VTing - so you can leave it quite late to make a call from a financial perspective, as long as you have space for two cars where you are.

You can then select dates at least up to 2 weeks later (might even be longer) with British Car Auctions who will come and pick it up. The thing that was time limited on that was actually booking the appointment rather than when the pick up was.

It ended up being about 2.5 weeks after I submitted the VT, that the car was picked up. But I wasn't paying for the old car over that time, that stopped from the point I submitted the VT.

Sorry, just to add - you will need to insure both cars over any overlapping period.

On a plus note you can also rearrange pick ups (as in push the date back) online as long as you give some notice. I did with mine due to work commitments.

Best of luck! The most important it is at dealer, you can go and have look.

Always admiring people when they order and wait for delivery (weeks/months), did this once (5 weeks wait) and salesman was fed up with me after 2 weeks of checking of the progress, I'm very inpatient! I want my car for yesterday.
Since then stock car for me, 1 week is a killer even!!!
