Hi guys, I wanted to report something bizarre and see if anyone else experienced this. I parked my 2014 X3 2.8xDrive on a steep, snowy driveway, ignition on, transmission in P and eBrake on. After 5 minutes it started rolling back. The women started screaming. I opened the door, jumped in and slammed the brakes. It hit nothing, thank God.

I swear the EBrake light was still on as I jumped in. The front wheels didn’t slip, they rolled as seen by others and in the tracks they left.

Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Were the rear brakes locked ?

P and eBrake would lock up rear brakes only. The front wheels would still spin freely.

Somebody had sent out a video a few years ago of their F15 X5 spontaneously rolling downhill into a ditch while parked in the middle of the night . I do remember that they were parked on a snowy hill too.

Thank goodness no injuries or damage though.

Yup, thank God. The reason the x3 was on was that my 2 small kids were in the 2014 X3 2.8xDrive asleep. It is 20 degrees here. I was unloading the X3 luggage into our house.

Think about that, it’s 20 degrees, I’m unloading my car My babies are in it. It’s in Park and the EBrake is on. Then it starts rolling.

Bad tiers maybe and it just started to slip? If it's on ice and even if all wheels were locked it could still easily slide down on ice.

Yeah, I've had this happen to me too. Even with winter tires and foot on the brake my car (A4 quattro) slowly drifted down our parents driveway which was covered in sheet ice.

This happened to me once at the cottage one winter (2015 X3 28i). The car is parked on a slight incline. Drove up, unloaded the car, went inside for the night. Came out the next morning and the car was at the bottom of the drive/incline.

Basically slid on the snow/ice.

E-brake doesn't guarantee anything. If you have all-season tires and gravity is pulling the car back, not much is going to stop it. In fact, winter tires are far superior for stopping and probably would have prevented this.

The best solution seems to be: Move to somewhere warmer!

In all seriousness, I would ditch the all seasons, get a set of dedicated summer and winter tires and just swap them when the time comes. Definitely costs more but is worth it in terms of safety and performance.
