I've experienced this twice now, both times when moving very slowly downhill approaching a main road.
Both times the temperature was cold, the road surface was damp, and i was coming down a steep hill to turn left on to a main road.
When almost stationary the violent shaking started... both times it felt like maybe the ABS was trying to prevent me from skidding, but i was doing <2mph and just about to stop.

Weird.

The only shaking (slight, short, and never violent) I had experienced was when I 'cheated' ASS from shutting off the engine at stop. I would slow down the car almost to a stop, ASS anticipated a stop was forthcoming and slowed down engine rpm to prepare for a complete shut off. As soon as rpm started to drop, I would ease up the brake and let the car rolled forward, canceling ASS and let the engine rev back up again to normal idling rpm before I finally took the car to a complete stop. There was usually a slight shake during the engine slowing down/revving back up sequence.

Sometimes “I” shake violently when sitting at a stop too long and can’t move/drive anywhere for more than 2 minutes. Just saying.

Likely some kind of software issues since you can shut off the vehicle and restart and all is well. But if not for that I would have said it was a problem with the torque converter not disengaging when it should

I had this happen once but not on purpose. My ASS usually kicks in before I come to a complete stop. I was approaching a red light (engine warm, weather warm) and I felt my ASS about to activate and I ease off the brake a bit. Car started to shake for about 2 seconds. I pressed harder on the brake, engine stayed on, nothing really happened. But it seemed like it was confused as to whether it should go to ASS or not.

Did the shaking come from down low at the wheels (as if it's from ABS) or up front under the hood/bonnet?

Felt like it was coming from in front and to the left of me - but in a right hand drive car that could be the front left wheel or the engine bay.
But letting off the brake and then getting on it again made it stop.
I have ASS off by default, if that matters.

Just had to pop to the post office so thought i would go via that hill and try and replicate the shaking. Try as i might, it wouldn't do it.
I know my dealer will ask me to replicate the behaviour for them.

This sounds like bad coilpacks/sparkplug(s) or a MAF issue to me. Especially if it's at a stop or at slow speeds. I'm sure that when you read the codes you can tell if there are high misfire counts or if the MAF sensor is bad and out of range.

It definately feels like a Braking issue. Also independant of ASS
Soon as you release the brake - goes away

For me, it has not happened again since September 5th when I posted this.
I still use auto H many times have driven in over 90 degrees here in Texas and on some hilly terrain. I never took it to the dealer. Hopefully that was it.
I am at 6500mi so far and have not had any other issue at all. 😊

i have managed to grab a video now as well but it wont let me up load. Mine has just been towed away by BMW emergency services on the instruction of the dealer. Have completely lost faith in my car now after brake recall, exhaust recall, rattling dashboard, damaged alloy on delivery, damaged car after being towed due a to stone getting stuck in the wheel which brought the whole car to a standstill. Apple carplay not working screen going blank!

Literally had enough!

I’m sorry to hear of your bad experience so far. Are BMW able to do anything about it? How long have you had your car?

All covered by warranty, right?

Has BMW managed to fix each issue successfully? Or have you had to take it in more than once for each issue?

The violent shaking sounds like the most serious issue and I’ve not read of a confirmed root cause being identified yet.

I hope you get your car sorted and can enjoy it properly.

I got same situation this morning when I started to park.

Wow. I totally forgot to capture this situation when I got this morning. But thank you. I can show it to the technician at dealership. I drove with Sport Plus and tried to park in order to drop my kids this morning. So I put R to make street parking and then, Suddenly same as the video, unbalanced washing machine like flying to the moon. So loud and scared. Before Stopping the engine, I tried to move gear to N and R and D but the loud sound kept going. Finally, I thought I had to stop Engine. And a few second later, I did start engine again and all that weird vibration and loud sound was gone. I will try to capture as well if I will see this again. Hope it is just simple malfunction.

Can you let me know what driving mode you selected when you saw this vibration in the car?
