Does this mod keep both flaps open at all times, or is this a start-up specific mod?

For example, after the mod, driving around and putting car in comfort mode, both flaps closed or remain open?

Thanks for confirming this worked for you. It also worked for me and was the only way I could keep the flap open.

Drove in Sport+ for about 20 minutes, pulled over and confirmed that the flap on the left-hand side was open, with the car still running, opened the hatch and pulled fuse 203. The fuse did not blow, and the flap remained open.

I noticed the day after when I started the vehicle, the cold start seemed a bit more aggressive (which I enjoyed) than the day prior. Is this my imagination or does the cold start now get louder since both flaps are open?

Louder because both are open

Ok cool. So the 2 benefits of this mod are a louder cold start and not having to press sport or sport plus when driving to open up the flaps.

The down side is potentially higher drone noise at speed that can be fixed with ASD mod.

Hi,
A few observations:-

Firstly - our car always started with both exhaust pipes working ( even if you stopped for just a few minutes and restarted it again) - maybe there is specific software regime for hot climates.
Secondly - the exhausts are not noticeably noisier in normal driving than before - just a nicer sound.
Thirdly - we have the HK audio system and already pulled the fuse for that before removing the exhaust flap fuse.

We now have a more natural six cylinder engine note from the car (which is still quite muted from the drivers seat - as we have the “double glazed” front windows).
There is no exhaust drone in any mode or at any speeds.
Cheers
Steve

I didn't drive around at all. Just started the engine in the garage (sport mode), then opened the flap using BimmerLink, then with the engine still running went to the back to verify the flap was open (it was), then pulled fuse 203. It's remained open ever since. I love it...neighbors do not!

I have a 30i......But I might do this to lessen the carbon buildup on ONLY one side of my silver exhaust tips, its so damn obvious and looks terrible everyday. BUT......if I do this, then instead o having to wipe down one pipe, now I'll have two to contend with!!!! AAAArrrgh!!!!

A word of warning.

After doing the fuse-pull method to keep the flap open a couple of months ago, today we had some colder weather and I had reason to jump out the car while it was still running (forgot my wallet). As I walked round the car I noticed that vapor was only coming from the right pipe. I had a closer inspection and sure enough the flap was closed in the pipe.

I assume that as the flap is not being actively actuated it will/can eventually vibrate back into a closed position. As it will not be re-opened by the ECU this could cause potentially harmful back pressure on the engine at high loads.

To be safe I've re-installed the flap fuse.

I would advise flap-mod folks to periodically check the position of the flap so ensure it stays in the open position.

Interesting observation. My car has a visit to the dealer later this month so i'll be plugging the fuse back in. Was the car on or off when you plugged it back in? If on, what mode were you running in?

Thanks.

I removed the fuse with the car running, but put it back in while the car was off.

It shouldn't matter as the ECU actively monitors the position of the flap so it'll sort itself out either way.

When the car is warmed up, are you in sport / sport + mode? Best to drive around in either mode for 10 min, keep car running and pull fuse.

I'll give it a try tomorrow. Once the fuse is pulled I shouldn't hear the actuator correct?

Correct the flaps will always remain open, so when in comfort mode and you select sport, you won't hear a change in exhaust note.

If you are pulling the right fuse, it should be impossible for it to actuate - there is no power to it! F203 - it's a 7.5amp one.

And I always understood that the flap was sprung open by default and could only be closed by a powered motor!
This means that if the correct fuse is pulled out once the flap is open - there is no way that it can close again - as the motor cannot function without the fuse in circuit!

My fuse 203 says a 30 on it. Also I'm in a 17 x4 m40i I thought it should be the same

It's definitely a 7.5A fuse, even on the X4. If you've pulled a 30A, it's the wrong one.

Ah sorry bud, you're in the wrong forum, your vehicle is an F26 X4. Try this forum: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=469

The 30A fuse you have pulled is for the rear window de-fogger.
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...use/1VnYqFeK7m

As far as I can tell, it's not possible to disable the flap in an F26 X4 as the fuse is hard-wired in the DME unit.
