Agreed. The 992 is absolutely sexy. And the fact that initial reviews are beyond stellar should tell you this car is even better than the 991 which few cars today can compare to. The 992 S/4S are going to be 991.2 GT3 level of performance. And the fact that those are entry level should indicate how far ahead Porsche is again with the 992 as they still are in the 991 (even at the end of its life cycle).

That's the classic progression

I went from s2000 -> M3 -> 991

Alot of people on Rennlist have done the same. Now I'm 993 + M5 and this could be the sweet spot

991 was an enormously competent car and the 992 looks like it's even more so. But they drive like BMWs, IMO. Nothing wrong with that, but they have a more touring feel. They are physically huge cars and they've also lost a bit of that raw edge, which is partly why alot people gravitate to the GT3/4 models. The 992 is also getting ridiculously expensive. A built out Carrera S is approaching 991 Turbo prices.

I've been moving around and up for years. I had a 996 about 12 years ago, decent car but it was like driving my Volvo, then did a Factory 5 Cobra for shits and giggles and then the Z4MC. I loved that car but had always wanted a 993, when I came across this one I had to pull the trigger. I sometimes miss the BMW, it was such a cool car. But you have to love the 993.

Idk...they are still pretty small physically despite being bigger and considering how big even the M2/3/4 are they still look small and drive even smaller. And on top of that, they are still quite light. The Porsches still have performance and driving dynamics bmw can’t touch but I do agree that the 911 is a GT car but puts up supercar performance and really can dominate at the track lap after lap without issues unlike most other brands..

Nice!

I've been really enjoying the 993. It's not remotely as fast as the M5, but it's got so much character and feel that it's just a blast to drive.

Something about the hips on these old cars that just get me every time.

no thanks.

for me the 911 died with the 997.
Curious which 991 you drove? The GTS, GT3 and even the T are all rock solid. The rest are pretty mundane IMO.

But haven't you heard? The 911 is now a Panamera coupe and the Cayman is the new 911.

You should give the GT4 a shot.
Drove a GTS and S 991. Wasn't impressed with the way the steering felt and how easy it was drive them. Kind of took all the edge away. Over-refined IMO. For a 911 it felt too luxurious and refined. I've driven 964s, 993s, 996s, and 997s all of which were a much more enjoyable driving experience.

Electronically assisted everything didn't help. I also think the 911 has sort moved more mainstream as a line; so they are compromising more on every front.

Would love to try out a GT4 or even a GT3 but haven't had the opportunity to.

My opinions are based off my experience driving older Porsches. Of course I still think the 911 (991) is/was an elite sports car but as far as 911s go it was by far the least favourite of mine. I don't get the hype about them at all...

The 991 still looks and feels brand new despite having hit dealers around 2011. That's really a testament to it's beauty.

The 992 looks great too but aesthetically is like a refreshed 991.

My point is that I'll eventually be in the market for a used 991.

Part of the reason i'm avoiding going 911 right here. M3+911 combo is overdone on rennlist. I know it sounds ridiculous/pompous but its true.

All 911s have looked the same since they began. Its always a little refresh every few years.

I agree but I really feel the lines have blurred between the 991 and 992. All the other generations obviously shared the shape but looked different enough...to me at least.

that's true. but I remember when the 991 came out, went to the dealer to see them, and I walked past a whole row of them thinking they were 997s.

I agree though the 992 looks very similar. Main difference is the interior is a big step up imo. and the light bar tail light.

Interesting, I think the 992 looks MUCH different from the 991 and is one of the biggest visual transformations in a while. The 996 to 997 to 991 to me looked like a clear evolution of the same car with each generation looking more modern. But the 992 rear end looks completely different than prior generations and overall the car appears more bubbly than before.

Agreed, but I still didnt notice that much of a difference between the two. I'm not surprised though because that's what keeps Porsches from depreciating as much, or at all. It's not like an M3, where if you look at the 3 previous generations, a newborn could distinguish them.

I was at PCNA HQ/PEC earlier today and saw the 992 in person. Based on what I've read and seeing it today, I'm sold. I will likely be in the market for one of these in the next 18-24 months. I was told this is the only 992 in North America. My apologies for the poor quality photos.

Yes but a 458 + 911 combo would work

After reading this thread, I researched the 992, and realized I didn't care at all for it.

But then I stumbled across a new '19 Carrera T... which I'll be bringing home tomorrow morning!

Being a forum member here sure can be costly, haha.

I drove a 991.1 Carrera 2 PDK for a full day test drive and the performance was outstanding, however, it was also a bit soft and too refined for a Porsche. I guess I was comparing it to the 997.1 Carrera 2S I owned at that time. I'm sure the 992 delivers in every way, but my guess is that the base Carrera 2 and Carrera 2S are still a bit refined as they are likely going to be purchased by rich people who want to DD it.

I won't be buying another Porsche unless it's a GT3 (or GT4). Maybe a used 991.2 GT3 in a couple of years after I see what the 992.1 GT3 brings to the table. I don't think I'll give up my M240i 6-speed though. It's too much car and fun for the money. If I don't feel like spending a bunch on a Porsche, the next-gen M2 Competition w/ S58 motor and DCT (praying BMW still offers a DCT in it...) will be a much more cost-effective alternative track weapon to the GT3.
