VIN Numbers - US and SA

Hi, I guess this will be a quick thread once the right answer comes back.

Which are the letters that show where your X3 was made please and is it the first 2 letter of the VIN?

Thanks in advance, so tried a search on the APP but no luck.

It's the 11th or the 1st digit of last 7 if that makes sense

L or M is Spartanburg, N is Roslin

It relates to European vins, I believe VINS are different in US, I assume all you're G01s over there would be built in Spartanburg anyway?

L for me so a Spartanburg baby. Shouldn't make any difference but it's the home of 'X' so I'm happy with that.

Thanks.

I have a 2019 on it's way to me now and my 11th character is a 0. Had a 2018 X3 and it was also a 0.

No problem yes I think your right can't see that quality would be any different these days

Not sure if still the case but it used to be only if you spec'd one of the individual options that M40d would be made in Spartanburg, do you have one of those?

I thought it still was the case, Chris’s car doesn’t have any individual options so i’m not sure why it was built in Spartanburg!

I suppose these things are fluid and change over time?

My X3 (20i) built in South Africa has NDxxxxx as the last 7 numbers of the VIN.

The 1st, 2nd, and 11th digits of the VIN reveal the locations and BMW plant where the vehicle was manufactured/produced:

Not really up to date for all variants today.

My car was manufactured in South Africa.
The VIN:
WBATX7502KNBnnnnn

WBA = plant in control of BMW Munchen
TX75 = G01 30d variant built in Roslyn. Should be the same as TX71.
0, 2 = same
N = Roslyn plant
Bnnnnn = serial number

Same, my X3 M40D is a WBAT - so many models and plants, VIN rules expanded.

I'm saying that the VIN will begin with a 1, 4 or 5 (Spartanburg plant) for vehicles sold in the USA.

Anyone know what the difference is between the TX numbers in the VIN?

Name:  TX codes.jpg
Views: 2961

I think:
TX71 & TX72 = Spartanburg builds
TX75 & TX76 = Rosslyn builds

But what's the difference between a 71 and a 72, equally a 75 and a 76?
It doesn't seem to be build date.

I have a TX76.
My hypothesis is that it's my Panoramic roof that separates it, as that's a fairly structural difference?

The US only has one 'TS' code for the M40i, but I think you get the 'moon roof' as standard on the M40i?

And the 'X' signifies xDrive v 'R' for rear wheel drive?

Aha. That's a far more structural difference!
