I wish I could get my M40i to pop and crackle even more than it already does in Sport/Sport+.

The Burbles are a little much and somewhat random on the M40 but all in all, BMW has done a great job of making the Straight 6 sound like a bigger motor.
Here is how my twin turbo V8 sounds with just revs up to 1,200 rpm. |

For General loudness - delete muffler and resonator. Be careful though, you might also end up deleting your eardrums too : Still thirst for more? Install two 12" subs and a 1600W amp in your trunk, and connect ASD to them... |

I've thought about the muffler/resonator deletes but have a feeling the wife would complain too much. Really hoping some good aftermarket exhausts get released this year...

https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1565456 Regarding the pops and bangs: Here is the post by a member who had the pops and bangs tuned out: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1531197 Another option that eliminates pops and bangs which does not require tuning: In the "Sport Individual" mode, you can set your preferences for Engine, Transmission and Steering. If you select "Comfort" for the Engine setting, there are no pops and bangs. Also, since the engine is in Comfort, the second exhaust flap remains closed so the overall exhaust noise is reduced (just like when you are in full Comfort mode). You can leave the Steering and Transmission set to Sport or Sport Plus so you still get the quick shifts and the engine generally remains in the higher rev range. It's a really good compromise, and your wife should be pleased with this. |

2021 x4 m40i
Hey there,
New to bimmerpost but came across this thread after purchasing my 2021 x4 m40i. The car currently has about 200+ miles on it and doesn't have any sort of exaggerated burps or gurgles even when it's in sport pus. Curious if i'm missing something in regards to making the exhaust louder or having that sort of muffled backfire. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks! |

You can do either a exhaust upgrade or a tune. For exhaust you can go custom made catback or get a downpipe. And with a tune you can adjust burbles and pops all day long.

Would you suggest one over the other? (Exhaust upgrade or Tune) or is it more personal reference. |
